02.18.2014 | By |

We got our hands on the first official photo from the new Roberto “Manos de Piedra” Duran biopic, ‘Hands Of Stone‘. The photo was released by its director and writer, Venezuelan man Jonathan Jakubowicz, on his Twitter account. The photo shows Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez as Duran; behind are Robert De Niro as coach Ray Arcel, Rubén Blades as Carlos Eleta, the manager.

Part of the film was shot in Panama in the areas of El Chorrillo, Salsipuedes and Rod Carew Stadium in the capital city, and in Portobelo in Colon, province that served as the stage to tell the story of one of the greatest athletes of the country. Another city where part of the film was shot was in New York, USA where Durán became the lightweight world champion in 1972.

The film stars Edgar Ramirez (Bourne Ultimatum, Zero Dark Thirty ) as Panamanian boxer Roberto Duran, who won 103 of 119 contests against such top-tier talent such as Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns, Marvin Hagler, Hector Camacho and Vinny Pazienza. Duran might be most remembered for the infamous fight against Leonard in which Duran called out, “No mas!” in order to quit the fight prematurely.

Robert De Niro co-stars as Duran’s trainer, Ray Arcel. ‘Hands of Stone’ also stars Usher, Ruben Blades, Ellen Barkin, and John Turturro.
