The wait is finally over. Former boyband front man, Harry Styles, made his debut as a solo artist! After One Direction went into hiatus last year, fans around the world eagerly awaited for their comeback. Unfortunately for One Direction fans, the band is still on hiatus, and no one knows when, or if, they will come back together to produce a sixth album. Styles is the fourth, and latest member of the original five-member line-up to release a solo project.
His debut single, “Sign of the Times,” is a powerhouse ballad which beautifully showcases his growth as an artist, leaving behind the days of, “What Makes You Beautiful,” showing the world that he’s capable of more than just teen pop singles. Sign of the Times is the perfect blend of David Bowie and Freddie Mercury’s musical sound, along with undertones of Indie pop, in other words – the complete opposite from his boyband roots.
The single consists of a haunting piano melody, high hitting falsettos and a catchy chorus that will be stuck in your heads for a couple of days. Many didn’t know what to expect from his debut single, but fans have absolutely fallen in love with Styles’ new Bowie-esque vibe.
The single’s been out only this weekend and has already beaten Adele’s record on the U.S iTunes charts for the fastest song to reach the coveted #1 spot. We know for sure that great things are to come from the curly headed lad, so for now we’ll have Sign of the Times on repeat until the official release of his solo album later this year.
