Michael Peña casted in David O. Russell's untitled thriller

For a nameless thriller this upcoming film was surely able to cast huge Hollywood names. Who cares if it’s a super greedy move, as they say the more the merrier!

This anonymous baby directed by David O. Russell has, like we said, almost everybody and their mother playing a role: Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner, Amy Adams, Louis C.K., Jennifer Lawrence, Alessandro Nivola, Elisabeth Rohm, Dawn Olivieri, Jack Huston, and according to The Boston Globe even Robert De Niro is playing a small role.

Deadline learned exclusively that O. Russell just wasn’t happy enough so he threw in a bit of Latin flavor with the Mexican-American actor Michael Peña.

The film formerly known as “American Bullshit” is inspired by the 1970s true tale of an infamous financial con artist and his lady in crime who find themselves forced to work with a federal agent to turn the tables on other cons, mobsters, and politicians. No details have been released on what role Peña would play.

The actor is quickly becoming one of our favorites and Hollywood seems to share our sentiments. The 37-year-old actor has been escalating the ranks since 2004 with his breakthrough performance in “Crash.” In 2012 he starred in “End of Watch” (our pick for best Hispanic film of 2013), as Mike Zavala a Los Angeles Officer and this past January in “Gangster Squad” where he played Officer Navidad Ramirez. This year is even bigger for the actor, he is doing a voice cast for Tito in the animated DreamWorks’ production “Turbo;” playing Cesar E. Chavez, the male lead in Diego Luna’s  “Chavez;” doing the voice of Abigor in ShadowMachine’s animation “Hell & Back;” and is playing Deputy U.S. Marshal Soto in the made-for-TV movie “The List.”

With all of these roles we hope that the Mexican-American actor will make his way into the elite circle of Hollywood but most importantly gain some nominations and wins during award season. There is no doubt that Peña is what we call “un orgullo Latino”.
