Selena Gomez casted in music film "Rudderless"

Selena Gomez has shed her sweet girl cocoon and has transformed into an adult.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gomez has signed on to star in William H. Macy’s “Rudderless” alongside Felicity Huffman, Billy Crudup, Anton Yelchin, and Laurence Fishburne.

The film is a musical drama about a grieving father who comes across his late son’s original music. Inspired, he forms a band looking for a way to cope with the loss. The movie will be Macy’s directorial debut.

Although no further details have been released about the film or Gomez’s character we do know she is looking forward to it. “So excited to be joining this film,” she tweeted to her fans yesterday.

Besides this future project for which shooting will start later this month, the starlet has been hard at work on her Hollywood career.

Last year she was busy shooting for the upcoming action-thriller, “Getaway” with Ethan Hawke. In the film Gomez plays “the kid” a young hacker who goes with Brent Magna (Hawke) on an intense car trip in order to save his kidnapped wife. The movie will debut in theaters sometime this year.

In a drastic change of character, earlier this March, Gomez alongside Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine starred in the R rated indie film “Spring Breakers” as four college girls who rob a convenience store in order to have the spring break of their lives. The film also features James Franco as Alien, a rapper and drug dealer played with whom they continue their crime spree. The very successful film which was not shy of obscene dialogue, nudity and a threesome scene left everyone with their jaws on the floor, especially the parents of little “Wizards of Waverly Place” fans.

Her work in the past year shows that the Mexican-American star is taking control of her career and exploring the extent of her talent through diverse roles. At the same time, she keeps her fans constantly informed and involved in her career and from preteen to adult, they can’t get enough of her. There is no doubt that from directors to name brands they love her because everything she touches turns to gold and judging by the success of “Spring Breakers” it’s apparent that her fans are willing to allow Gomez grow up and most importantly support her in her in all of her ventures – so those shocked parents might just have to get over it because there will plenty of Selena Gomez for years to come.
