2014 Oscar Nominations: The Complete List

This is the second year in a row where movies have been at a premium. So tough to pick who and what should be nominated that many people who deserved to be nominated were left out. RUSH by Ron Howard and INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS were perhaps the most noteworthy absences. Nevertheless, PHILOMENA, HER and DALLAS BUYERS CLUB got some well deserved love with 4, 5 and 6 nods respectively. But it was AMERICAN HUSTLE and GRAVITY whom each received 10 nominations. A victory already for Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón.

New York Film Critics Online Names ’12 Years’ Best Picture!

New York Film Critics Online (NYFCO) held its fourteenth annual awards meeting on December 8, 2013 in Lincoln Center’s Furman Gallery. Founded in 2000, NYFCO is our country’s most prestigious group of internet critics. Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave won three awards, including an extremely close Best Picture race with the Coen Brothers Inside Llewyn Davis; Best Actor went to Chiwetel Ejiofor and Best Supporting Actress to Lupita Nyong’o. Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity picked up two awards, with Cuarón winning Best Director and Emmanuelle Lubezki picking up Best Cinematography. Abdellatif Kechiche’s Blue is the Warmest Color also won two awards: Best Foreign Language Film and Breakthrough Performance for its star, Adèle Exarchopoulos. Read More

October could very well be the single best month to watch movies of 2013. When you do a quick overview of the films being released this month, five of them are the frontrunners to win Best Picture at the Oscars 2014. Many of these movies possess all star casts, top flight directors and innovative and fresh stories. They are also coming fresh off of great reviews at Venice, Telluride, Toronto and New York Film Festivals. Not to be ignored are the commercial fare which includes Arnold and Sly together in a full feature film as opposed to cameos and one of the greatest assembled cast of Hispanics in film history in ‘Machete Kills‘ and ‘The Counselor‘.
