I still don’t think Mark Wahlberg fits the Transformers franchise, but now that Michael Bay is stepping down after this film, it’ll be interesting to see how the dynamics (and cast) probably change under “new management”. Transformers: The Last Knight is the fifth installment of the Transformers franchise series and is a direct sequel to 2014’s “Transformers: Age of Extinction” which is hitting theaters on June 23, 2017. It’s also Michael Bay‘s final Transformers film to be directed by Bay. The cast includes Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Hopkins, Josh Duhamel, Laura Haddock, Jerrod Carmichael, and Isabela Moner. ‘Thor,’ the first Marvel superhero film of the year, debuts this weekend to high expectations from cinephiles to film executives. This film adaptation is faithful to the mythology of the comic book hero, has a well blend of humor and drama, is visually stunning, but stumbles through the end, and although it recovers, it does not manage to have a place in the pantheon of superhero classics such as ‘Superman II’ and ‘The Dark Knight.’ However, the film, mostly, is great popcorn fun and is worth spending the money to see, especially in IMAX 3D. Woody Allen has set Josh Brolin and Anthony Hopkins to star in the film he wrote and will shoot in London this summer.
Brolin and Hopkins are the first in an ensemble cast. As usual, Allen is keeping title and plot under wraps.
The film will be financed by Spain-based Mediapro, which provided coin for “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.” Letty Aronson and Steve Tenenbaum are producing.
There is no domestic distributor yet on Allen’s upcoming film. He made a recent deal with Sony Pictures Classics for U.S. distribution on “Whatever Works,” a comedy that will likely be distributed this summer.
Brolin, Oscar-nominated for “Milk,” is next booked to star in the title role in “Jonah Hex,” a live-action adaptation of the DC Comics series for Warner Bros. He previously worked with Allen on 2004’s “Melinda and Melinda.”
Hopkins recently completed “The Wolf Man” for Universal.
