‘Tron: Legacy’ is #1 at the box office!

With an impressive per theater average of more than $12,000, “Tron: Legacy” was easily the number one movie at the box office, earning $43.60 million overall for distributor Buena Vista/Disney. The other three new titles were not as fortunate, however, as “How Do You Know,” “Yogi Bear” and “The Fighter” all made less than $5,000 per venue and struggled to reach their target demographics.

With Jeff Bridges leading the cast and a very strong marketing campaign from Buena Vista, “Tron: Legacy” seemed to be in great shape heading into the weekend. Without much competition for action audiences, the $170 million production had its target audience mostly to itself, which translated to a very nice opening for December.

Though a $43 million opening weekend isn’t close to the top blockbusters of the year, we’re also just entering a very lucrative holiday period for the box office. Last year, “Avatar,” “Sherlock Holmes,” “It’s Complicated” and “Alvin and the Chipmunks: the Squeakquel” all had very impressive runs over Christmas, which should be the case for “Tron: Legacy” as well. With a couple more strong weekends, “Tron: Legacy” should soar past $100 million domestically and post nice foreign totals as well.

‘Megamind’ is #1 at the box office!

After a disappointing few weekends, the US box office enjoyed a healthy bump in the last three days as three new movies opened wide to successful returns. Topping the charts was DreamWorks’ latest 3D ‘toon, Megamind, with the superhero comedy earning $47.6 million, putting it ahead of Todd Phillips’ new comedy Due Date. The Robert Downey Jr/Zach Galifianakis road trip pic nabbed a strong $33.5 million, winning second place.

Tyler Perry’s latest, For Colored Girls, was third with a solid $20.1 million. Rounding out the top five were Red, which is holding strong, and dropped just one place to fourth with $8.8 million, despite having been out for a month now, and Saw 3D, which toppled from the top to land in fifth, adding $8.2 million for a running total of $38.8 million.

But though Jigsaw and co are still ahead of Paranormal Activity 2 in terms of chart placing, the scary sequel is easily outperforming the torture title, adding $7.2 million to a current total of $77.2 million after three weeks. They’re both put to shame by Jackass 3D in seventh, which made $5 million this weekend and is well over $110 million.

Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter slipped to eighth with $4.1 million and Secretariat dropped to ninth with $4 million. Finally, in 10th, we find The Social Network, which will likely leave the top 10 next week and made $3.6 million.

‘Paranormal Activity 2’ is #1 at the box office

A week away from Halloween, film goers chose to see a horror movie this weekend, in which “Paranormal Activity 2” topped the box office and moved up on last week’s, “Jackass 3D.”

The sequel to the successful 2009 horror film in which a family is haunted by strange presences, generated $41.5 million.

Meanwhile, “Jackass 3D”, the new film about the adventures of Johnny Konxville and his crazy team of stuntmen, had to settle this week for second place, to raise revenues by $ 21.6 million, published DPA.

“Red” by Robert Schwentke, was third. The action comedy about a retired FBI agent starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren generated $15 million. Since its debut last week, the film earned more than $43 million in total.

Jackass 3D is #1 at the box office. Unbelievable but true!

Johnny Knoxville and his “Jackass” gang are even bigger hits in three dimensions. “Jackass 3D,” their latest big-screen collection of crazy stunts and antics, opened with a whopping $50 million, soaring past the debuts of their first two movies, according to studio estimates Sunday.

It was the third-straight No. 1 opening for Paramount’s franchise, which launched with a $22.8 million opening for 2002’s “Jackass: The Movie” and then a $29 million debut for 2006’s “Jackass Number Two.”

“Jackass 3D” set a record for biggest October debut, topping the $48.1 million opening weekend for “Scary Movie 3” in 2003. Premiering at No. 2 with $22.5 million was Summit Entertainment’s action comedy “Red,” starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich and Mary-Louise Parker in the tale of retired black-ops agents targeted by the CIA.

Despite the huge opening for “Jackass 3D,” Hollywood was unable to pull out of a box-office slide that has persisted this fall. Overall revenues totaled $133 million, down 4 percent from the same weekend last year.

Sony’s acclaimed Facebook drama “The Social Network,” which had been No. 1 the previous two weekends, held up well as it slipped to third-place. Estimated ticket sales, in millions, for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood.com.

‘The Social Network’ makes it 2 weeks in a row!

‘The Social Network’, a movie many thought to be just a film for teens, took in $15.5 million, taking the No. 1 spot at the box office for the second straight weekend.

The ‘Facebook’ movie, as others call it, raised its 10-day total to $46.1 million.

In second place, Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel’s romance flick, “Life as we Know it” came in at a close second with $14.6 million. This rom-com was a charming look at the romantic destiny between two people.

“Secretariat,” the horse-racing drama starring Diane Lane, came in third with $12.6 million.

‘The Social Network’ is#1 at the box office!

The Facebook movie “The Social Network” found millions of friends in theaters over the weekend, taking in $23 million and earning the No. 1 spot at box offices.

By contrast, other releases of the weekend kicked off with weakness. The Paramount horror film, Case 39, starring Renee Zellweger, came in seventh place with $ 5.35 million, while Let Me In, the vampire story of Overture Film, debuted eighth with 5.3 million .

Meanwhile, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps at 20th Century Fox, the last weekend topped the list, dropped to third place with $ 10.1 million and 35.9 million accumulated in total.

The Social Network joined a list of plays for adults who are reigning in theaters, along with the sequel to the film Wall Street, The Town, starring and directed by Ben Affleck, which was ranked fourth, with $ 10 million. In its three weeks has brought 64.3 million.

Ben Affleck’s ‘The Town’ is #1 at the box office!

The latest film directed and starring Ben Affleck, The Town, which takes place in his hometown of Boston, led the weekend box office in the U.S. and Canada, according preliminary figures Sunday’s tracker Exhibitor Relations.

The Town, the second film directed by Affleck, generated $23.8 million taking down the fourth installment of the Resident Evil series from the top of the box office.

In second place stood the smart teen flick, ‘Easy A’ in which a student lies about losing her virginity to increase her popularity. It made $18.2 million dollars.

Devil, a supernatural thriller in which Satan holds a group of people in the elevator of a building in Philadelphia did $12.6 million for third place, followed by Resident Evil: Afterlife, which passes the $ 26.7 million raised the last weekend (released), only 10.1 million this weekend.

"Resident Evil: Afterlife" is #1 at the Box Office!

The video game you used to play back in the day is #1 at the box office this week.

“Resident Evil: Afterlife” was the only movie to show any real signs of life, opening at No. 1 in 3,202 theaters with $27.7 million, according to early estimates.

“Afterlife” generated a record for the franchise. The 3-D film benefited from higher 3-D ticket prices.

In second place was the heist thriller “Takers” with $6.1 million dollars.

Last weekend’s winner, “The American,” came in third place

And still don’t understand why, but “Machete” suffered an even worse decline, falling 63 percent to fourth place, with just $4.2 million for the weekend and $20.8 million total.

In 10th, “Eat Pray Love” cooked up $2.9 million, a 40 percent drop.

‘The American’ is #1 at the box office!

What!? George Clooney’s ‘The American’ beat out Robert Rodriguez’s ‘Machete‘? Anyone who has seen those two films can discern which one was the most entertaining of the two and the winner should have been ‘Machete’. What were people thinking?

The spy thriller “The American” is #1 at the box office this morning taking in $12.3 million dollars in US and Canadian theaters this weekend.

Coming in #2 is ‘Taker’s earning $11.5 million dollars and ‘Machete’ brought in $11.3 million dollars. Welp, I guess there goes the sequels for next year.

‘The Last Exorcism’ is #1 at the box office

‘The Last Exorcism’ is #1 at the box office

We still don’t think that The Last Exorcism is all that great, but it managed to attract horror hungry audiences to the box office – Lionsgate, I’d love to know how many Hispanics went this opening weekend; they over-index on horror films more than any other demographic.

Nevertheless, the recycled horror plots of the low-budget horror The Last Exorcism sneaked in with $21.3 million, with Takers on $21 million, but that could all change when the final figures actually arrive tomorrow. Still, given that the horror only cost $1.8 million to make, it’s already a success.

The only other new entry wasn’t really new at all, except for eight minutes of fresh footage, but Avatar’s limited re-release only managed to arrive in 12th place. Considering it’s already out on DVD, it’s not a small achievement.

In third place we find The Expendables with $9.5 million, just ahead of Eat Pray Love, which made $7 million. And bringing up the rear in the top five, The Other Guys, which clung on to its spot with $6.6 million and is about to crack $100 million.
