This Week In Movies: ‘Batman v Superman,’ ‘Born To Be Blue’

03.21.2016 | By |

We’re a little more than half-way through March and this week’s movies offer a little somehting for everyone. One which has captivated my attention is Ethan Hawke’s Born To Be Blue, a jazz film about Chet Baker, arguably the most popular trumpeter after Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie. I had met with Hawke last year and he showed me several pics of the production and we discussed favorite albums plus his legacy. Also, we should address the armored bat in the room – Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. This is the most anticipated film of 2016. The reason it is more anticipated than Captain America: Civil War, is the tremendous pressure and risk behind the success of WB and DC’s franchise set-up film. Read More

08.30.2013 | By |

The “1-4-0″: #TheGetaway isn’t as bad as critics say. Yes, it has wild leaps of logic, but its escapism does entertain with its skilled car stunts. Read More

08.27.2013 | By |

During a recent one-on-one interview we had with superstar Selena Gomez, she revealed a tidbit of information that I had never heard before… Mexican pop icon Paulina Rubio is Selena Gomez’s favorite singer! Who would have thunk it!? For those who don’t know who Ms. Rubio is, she’s an original member of the super successful Mexican pop group called Timbiriche from the mid-80s, has sold more than 20 million records around the world as a solo artist, and has released 10 studio albums. Oh, she’s also the new judge on this Fall’s The X-Factor with Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato, and Kelly Rowland. Read More

Selena Gomez’s New Movie Trailer of ‘Getaway’

06.6.2013 | By |

Unlike her eyeblink appearance in the god-awful Aftershock, Selena Gomez is at least in half of the new action thriller Getaway starring Ethan Hawke. He, by the way, has already been in two movies this year – Before Midnight (one of this year’s best) and The Purge (a follow-up horror thriller after Sinister from 2012).

After Spring Breakers and Aftershock, Gomez is really trying to break into acting all while maintaining a healthy music career. She’s about to drop a new album called Stars and Dance along with a US tour.

I still can’t get a chance to judge if she can really act. I think she has the potential to be very good, but I really need to see her with better actors around her. Read More

Sick motion poster of horror film ‘Sinister’

05.31.2012 | By |

Sick motion poster of horror film 'Sinister'

Summit Entertainment, the studio responsible for the “Twilight” film series, has revealed the first “motion poster” from the horror movie “Sinister“. These types of posters are scarce in the movie industry, but when they’re unveiled, they are hypnotic.

The plot, written by director Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) stars Ethan Hawke, a crime novelist who moves his family to a house where gruesome murders of various families were carried out. His intention is to write the next great crime novel. But when he finds a box of home videos that shows other families being brutally murdered, he realizes that he may have made a big mistake by moving into the house. His investigation leads him to a supernatural entity that could now be looking to kill his family.

The premise of “Sinister” sounds intriguing and Ethan Hawke has become a reliable actor who is building a reputation of delivering a good performance a good film. If you don’t think so, watch TAPE from Richard Linklater.

The film also stars Vincent D’Onofrio and James Ransone. “Sinister” makes its theatrical debut August 24.

Brooklyn’s Finest (Movie Review)

03.5.2010 | By |

‘Brooklyn’s Finest’ is a very good film that brings together some wonderfully gritty acting, an engrossing storyline and a riveting ending. There are some twists that you’ll enjoy and overall it’ll remind you of films such as ‘Crash’ and ‘Serpico’.
