Watch: Third new trailer of horror film “The Conjuring”

07.1.2013 | By |

From what I’ve been personally hearing, word on the rated R scarefest of “The Conjuring” is divided. I’ve been told in my face that it’s tame and a snoozer and then been told that it’s really scary. Sheesh, which one is it? Like always, I have to see it for myself because I can’t trust other critics friends of mine. I’m seeing it soon, but from the two trailers I have already seen, my current fave horror director James Wan (Saw, Insidious 1 & 2) amps the suspense to a 10. But I’ve been fooled before by misleading trailers. Watch this third trailer and tell me what you think – bomb or hit?

Official synopsis: Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville.  Based on the true life story, “The Conjuring” tells the tale of how world renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were called upon to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse.  Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most horrifying case of their lives.

This film has been rated R for sequences of disturbing violence and terror.

I would say that ‘Mama’ which is presented by executive producer Guillermo Del Toro is not rightly labeled as a horror film, because it is more of a fantasy and supernatural thriller than it is scary. Argentinian director Andrés Muschietti made a short-film in Spanish in 2008 titled ‘Mamá’ along with sister Barbara Muschietti, Del Toro saw something he liked and convinced them to make it into a full-length film. The film approaches what we’ve come to expect from Del Toro such as beauty even in the darkest scenes, an interesting plot and weird supernatural characters. The film is entertaining in it’s own right, but for those that are looking to get spooked you will only be startled and will be taken in a completely different direction. Read More

Fede Alvarez: "Evil Dead is the goriest movie ever made"

03.21.2013 | By |

One of the great stories of 2013 is the story of a young Uruguayan filmmaker who went from the obscurity of a third world country in the farthest regions of the world to directing one of Hollywood’s most iconic horror films, and a big budget horror film at that. His name is Fede Alvarez and his dream has come true, and most likely, even has exceeded it. Read our Q&A of how Alvarez made it.  Read More
