A Lifetime Film? Looks like Jennifer Lopez isn’t the A-List star she used to be.

Jennifer Lopez and Viola Davis will be coming soon to a small screen near you. Lifetime Films and A+E Studios are set to produce the independent feature film “Lila and Eve” starring Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee Davis (“The Help,” “Doubt”) and Golden Globe Award nominee Lopez (“Out of Sight,” “Selena”). The film is targeted toward a festival premiere and theatrical release in late 2014/early 2015. Will Lifetime Develop More Latino Programming Because Of The Success Of ‘Devious Maids’?

Looks like Lifetime’s new Latina themed show Devious Maids is a bonafide hit and a bonafide hit with Hispanics too as 19% of them in total viewers nearly doubles that of Lifetime’s primetime average. In other words, 9.5% of Hispanics watch other Lifetime programming vs. 19% of them watching Devious Maids. You can attribute the success of the show to specific themes: Latina protagonists, Latino themed situations, guilty pleasure escapism and a sexy Latin vibe to the show has really become a point of engagement TV for Hispanics. Who knows how many others are watching on an iPad or On Demand added to the ratings success. Read More

TV Review: ‘Devious Maids’

Cable network Lifetime is offering a pre-linear sneak peek of its ‘Devious Maids‘ pilot in English and Spanish tonight, June 9th, 2 weeks before its on air premiere. I review the show from a Hispanic perspective and let you now if you should make it a part of your weekly TV viewing.

The 1-4-0: ‘Devious Maids’ is worth a watch for at least the first 2 episodes, but it’s definitely not must see TV the way “Desperate Housewives was season 1.
