Jack Rico’s Top 10 Movies Of 2016

12.29.2016 | By |

It’s hard to look back at 2016 and not think how tragic it was to lose our beloved artistic icons. But when it comes to motion pictures, there were a couple silver linings one can sanguinely lean on as bright spots. Though this was by far the year of superheroes and animated films, it was also the year where we witnessed the Golden Age of African-American storytelling. With remarkable films such as Moonlight, Hidden Figures, Fences, Birth of a Nation, Kicks, Loving, 13th and I Am Not Your Negro in theaters, the outlook for black cinema finally looks hopeful. Women and multiculturalism were also front and center on screen and behind the scenes and no film was more demonstrative of those attributes than Rogue One. Movies, in general, impact people differently and I believe the Top 10 Movies I have selected above not only reflect those qualities, but provide the standard of excellence in cinema this year. TODAY: Must Things To See And Read For Thanksgiving Weekend!

11.6.2016 | By |

Of all the segments I have done for the TODAY show in the last 3 years, this was by far the most challenging and visually dynamic one I’ve done. The concept is simple: discuss three cultural topics, under 5 munutes, on three stages with three hosts. It sounds like an obstacle course, right? Lol. From what I was told, these types of segments have been done before but with THREE contributors. The fact that TODAY producers allowed me to do all three means they have tremendous trust in me which I highly appreciate them for it. Also, I found out it was the first time they were testing out the new format so whatever you see here has never been done before on their show. I’m very fortunate to have had the opportunity and for actually pulling it off!
