The 10 Best Movies To See This October!

October could very well be the single best month to watch movies of 2013. When you do a quick overview of the films being released this month, five of them are the frontrunners to win Best Picture at the Oscars 2014. Many of these movies possess all star casts, top flight directors and innovative and fresh stories. They are also coming fresh off of great reviews at Venice, Telluride, Toronto and New York Film Festivals. Not to be ignored are the commercial fare which includes Arnold and Sly together in a full feature film as opposed to cameos and one of the greatest assembled cast of Hispanics in film history in ‘Machete Kills‘ and ‘The Counselor‘. Do yourself a service, if you haven’t been to the movies all year, this is the one month you should step out and watch one.

New Trailer: Disney’s ‘Frozen’

In a really, really, really bad year for animated movies, we finally get to see, perhaps, the frontrunner to the Best Animated Feature at the Oscars – Frozen – from Walt Disney Animation Studios (Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph). Its toughest competitor will most likely be The Wind Rises by legendary animation director Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle). Oscars 2014 Will Be The Year Of The Latinos!

The 2013 Academy Awards might not have been the most cheerful event for Latino viewers who expected more wins for their own.

This year, out the 24 categories there were only four wins we can claim ours including Best Cinematography for the Chilean Claudio Miranda (who doesn’t speak Spanish) for his work on “Life of Pi,” Best Documentary Short for “Inocente” about a homeless undocumented Latina immigrant who longs to be an artist, Best Documentary Feature for “Searching for Sugar Man” about a musician of Mexican descent named Rodriguez who became bigger than Elvis Presley in South Africa during the 70s, and the biggest win of the night, Best Picture for “Argo,” based on the story of CIA operative Tony Mendez, who though he says is not Hispanic, does admit to having a Mexican bloodline.
