‘Jack the Giant Slayer’ makes it to #1!

03.4.2013 | By |

'Jack the Giant Slayer' makes it to #1!

This was a very slow weekend at the box office; the numbers coming in Friday didn’t look so good. Now, at the end of it all ‘Jack the Giant Slayer’ topped the box office with $28 million dollars, a great amount over the other ones. Although this isn’t a win for Warner Bros. because the film’s estimated budget was around $200 million and they are far from it, making this film a definite flop.

‘Identity Thief’ fell to second place with $9.7 million dollars and a grand total of $107 million dollars for the four weeks it has been out in theaters. This movie on the other hand has been a big winner, so big applause to all involved. Read More

'Oz the Great and Powerful': wardrobe and merchandise

Next week on Friday March 8thOz the Great and Powerful’ comes to the big screen nationwide. Many are awaiting this film not only because it is the prequel to the beloved classic ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ but also because of the big names attached to the film, starting by the director Sam Raimi and following the entire cast. I got a chance to fly to Los Angeles not only to interview them all, but also to check out the original wardrobes they wore on set, check out the merchandise out on the marketplace now to promote the Disney film and to get treated to a setting of a yellow brick road and a hot air balloon even if just for a little while. Leaping lizards! Imagine a little Latina Annie? We have.

This week it was confirmed that power players Jay-Z and Will Smith will officially produce “Annie” with an African-American twist. Yes, the little orphan that sings “the sun will come out tomorrow,” will be black. Annie will be played by the adorable 9-year-old Quvenzhane Wallis who will go into Oscar history as the youngest Best Actress Oscar nominee. The Academy Award gave Wallis this honor after her astounding performance in “Beasts of the Southern Wild.”

This wonderful news got us thinking – if Hollywood can have a black Annie, why can’t they also have a little adorable Latin Annie?  Read More

Exclusive: Nadine Velazquez on ‘Snitch’, ‘Aztec Warrior’

02.21.2013 | By |

Nadine Velazquez is definitely a rising star in Hollywood. This Puerto Rican beauty already has a solid TV career with her roles in ‘My Name is Earl’, ‘Hart of Dixie’, and ‘The League’ and now she’s slowly making her way into the big screen after some previous attempts a while ago. Last year her role in Denzel Washington’s ‘Flight’ got everyone’s attention as she is nude in the first scene for a long time and has a lingering role throughout the film. I had the chance to talk to her back when that film opened and now I had the luck to talk to her once more for her movie ‘Snitch’ starring Dwayne Johnson and Susan Sarandon; opening this Friday, February 22nd.

02.18.2013 | By |

Zero Dark Thirty,’ the early front-runner in the Oscar race back in December 2012, was the film that garnered the most number of Best Picture wins from varios US film critic organizations. Now after Argo cleaned its clock throughout the televised award season, Venezulan actor Edgar Ramirez, who had a nice chunk of screen time in the film, thinks ZDK has a shot to win it all.

In 2005, he made his major international motion picture debut playing Choco, Domino Harvey’s love interest in the film Domino, directed by Tony Scott. 'A Good Day to Die Hard' punches its way to #1!

Most of the movies in the box office this week came out Valentine’s day, which means they’ve had four days to get some numbers in and ‘A Good Day to Die Hard’ ended up at number one with $25 million dollars. The new John McClane and son film received terrible reviews, but its faithful followers still made sure to give it a chance, its total for the four days is $33.2 million dollars. The movie has had a lot of international support, which might help its weak beginning.

Last week’s number one ‘Identity Thief’ fell to number two with $23.4 million dollars, making it a success. The film surprised everyone taking over the box office last week, the comedy has now earned way past its production cost making it an unexpected winner. Read More

This Valentine’s Day weekend ‘Escape From Planet Earth’ an original animated family film will open nationwide! For us Latinos who love animated films this will be one to go see, especially because of the great Latino actors who voice some of the most important characters in the film: Jessica Alba is Lena, the beautiful and intelligent chief at BASA, Sofia Vergara plays Gabby the hot and spicy anchor for BNN News, and finally George Lopez a three-eyed slug alien named Thurman.
