Diego Boneta "auditions" for Batman

Imagine Batman. You are seeing a powerful man in an all-black skin-tight leather suit which outlines his muscular body, a black flowing cape, and a black mask with pointy bat ears that only reveals his mouth and eyes.  For years, many gentlemen have taken on this heroic role, each one giving the character a personal influence.

Last week, The Hollywood Reporter gave a new chap the opportunity to “don the figurative cape” and let’s just say that his influence on the legendary character was nothing less than unforeseen.  Read More

Pedro Almodovar to be celebrated by Academy

Pedro Almodovar is being honored again, and this time, by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in London.

The event will feature a conversation with Almodovar and discussions with friends, colleagues and family members including Agustin Almodovar, filmmaker Stephen Frears, fashion guru Jean-Paul Gaultier, composer Alberto Iglesias and scriptwriter Peter Morgan.

Almodovar’s most recent film was The Skin I Live In, which grossed about $22 million worldwide and was released by Sony Pictures Classics in the U.S., where it grossed about $3.2 million.

His next film will be called Los Amantes Pasajeros (Standby Lovers) with Paz Vega as part of the cast. The Spanish movie, which Almodovar also wrote, follows a group of travelers who are placed in life-threatening situation aboard a plane flying to Mexico City. The passengers are defenseless in the face of danger, which provokes colorful confessionals that are their way to put out of mind the possibility they might be about to die.

Along with Vega, the movie stars Javier Camara (Talk to Her), Cecilia Roth (All About My Mother) and Lola Duenas (Volver). Spanish comedians Carlos Areces, Raul Arevalo and Jose Maria Yazpik are also in the cast.

Agustin Almodovar, the director’s brother, is producing the film. It is expected to shoot in Madrid this summer and will be released in spring 2013 by production company El Deseo.

‘Sin City 2’: Robert Rodriguez has an official release date!

10.30.2012 | By |

'Sin City 2': Robert Rodriguez has an official release date!

Theres is an official release date for “Sin City: A Dame To Kill For” from Mexican-American director Robert Rodriguez. It is scheduled for release October 4, 2013.

Rodriguez wrapped up “Machete Kills” in 29 days before jumping into “Sin City 2” and is shooting on his soundstages in his native Austin. But while the movie may be underway, casting for major parts is still underway. So far, the only Latinas casted are Jessica Alba and Rosario Dawson, who played Nancy Callahan and Gail respectively. Alba received a lot of screen time and her character was key for many scenes along Mickey Rourke.

Rourke’s character, Marv, was killed in the original film but this story precedes that tragic fate. Of note in the article, too, is the fact that Angelina Jolie, who was expected to play the major role of Ava, is not likely to appear. So that role is still being cast. Same goes for Dwight, originally played by Clive Owen. Owen was expected to return but apparently Dwight’s story in “Sin City 2” sees him get facial reconstruction so they will likely just recast the character.

Rodriguez and co-director Frank Miller wrote the script for the new movie, which is a combination of comics storylines and a new one written specifically by Miller for the movie. One of the storylines being adapted is A Dame to Kill For, originally published in 1993 and featuring a man named Dwight entangled in a complicated and deadly relationship with a femme fatale named Ava.
