The Top 10 Best Films From TIFF 2013

One of the most important film festivals in the world is the Toronto International Film Festival. Out of the more than 300 movies presented there, we are giving you what we consider were the Top 10! Some films that garnered a ton of buzz going in, but couldn’t maintain it going out. Some of those were August: Osage County, Labor Day, The Fifth Estate, Life of Crime and The F Word. If we had a Top 20, I would have added them. In the meantime enjoy The Top 10 Best Films From TIFF 2013!

1) 12 Years Of Slave
Director: Steve McQueen

Synopsis: In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery.

2) Gravity

Synopsis: A medical engineer and an astronaut work together to survive after an accident leaves them adrift in space.

3) Blue Is The Warmest Color
Director: Abdellatif Kechiche

Synopsis: The story of a young lesbian couple’s beginning, middle and possible end.

4) Dom Hemingway
Director: Richard Shepard

Synopsis: After spending 12 years in prison for keeping his mouth shut, notorious safe-cracker Dom Hemingway is back on the streets of London looking to collect what he’s owed.

5) Prisoners

6) Dallas Buyers Club

Synopsis: The story of Texas electrician Ron Woodroof and his battle with the medical establishment and pharmaceutical companies after being diagnosed as HIV-positive in 1986, and his search for alternative treatments that helped established a way in which fellow HIV-positive people could join for access to his supplies.

7) Rush
Director: Ron Howard
Cast: Daniel Brühl, Chris Hemsworth, Olivia Wilde
Synopsis: A re-creation of the merciless 1970s rivalry between Formula One rivals James Hunt and Niki Lauda.

8) Night Moves
Director: Kelly Reichardt
Cast: Dakota Fanning, Jesse Eisenberg, Peter Sarsgaard
Synopsis: A drama centered on three environmentalists who plot to blow up a dam.

9) Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom

Synopsis: A chronicle of Nelson Mandela’s life journey from his childhood in a rural village through to his inauguration as the first democratically elected president of South Africa.

10) Belle

Synopsis: The illegitimate, mixed-race daughter of a Captain in the Royal Navy finds her unique social standing become instrumental in the campaign to end slavery in England after meeting an idealistic young vicar’s son.
