A Latina actress looks to reprise her small screen role on the big screen as the cult classic TV series Veronica Mars is in the works to become a feature film.
Who is Julie Gonzalo?
If you are having a hard time remembering the Argentinian actress, think back to Freaky Friday and A Cinderella Story where she plays the mean rich girl. Most recently she played Pamela Rebecca Barnes in the TNT revival of Dallas.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, there is a possibility Julie Gonzalo will be involved in the project by director Rob Thomas. Nothing’s for sure, but I would love to be a part of it, she told the publication. That was an enjoyable gig for me.
What is Veronica Mars?
Veronica Mars is a series about a young woman, who after the murder of a high-school student and best friend Lily Kane, and her father’s removal from his job as a county sheriff, dedicates herself to solving the toughest mysteries in her town of Neptune in California. Gonzalo entered the show in season three when Veronica and her friend Cindy “Mac†Mackenzie were freshmen at Neptune’s Hearst College. She played Parker Lee, Mac’s extroverted roommate.
The show was on TV from 2004-2007 and it is apparent that in those three years it stole the hearts of many fans who are now supporting the film’s Kickstarter campaign which asks for monetary donations to fund the film.  So far the project has collected more than $5 million dollars, surpassing its $2 million goal in the first ten hours, reported BusinessInsider.com.
After the director announced on the website that he just finished writing the script for the movie he added that the amount recently reached is still a small budget for a film. “Everything you’ve pledged beyond the initial $2 million gives us more options, and for that I’m eternally grateful,†he told the project’s supporters. “More backing means more locations, more sets, more actors, and most important of all, more shooting days. The bottom line? That extra support gives us the freedom to make the best movie possible.â€
Right now Gonzalo is probably crossing her fingers so that more fans show their support and she can once again play Parker Lee since it appears it will all come down to budget. Frankly, I think If the 31-year-old actress does manage to get to play the character it definitely won’t be considered a breakthrough for her career, but rather just another job on her resume because she would only be playing a supporting role in a film that has a cult following and is therefore not promised to be a hit at the box office. Let us know if you were a fan of “Veronica Mars†and think the film version wouldn’t be as good without Julie Gonzalo playing Parker Lee.
