Lately the internet has been raving about a musical love confession made by Katy Perry and John Mayer. “Who You Love” is the name of the duet by the on-again-off-again couple and it’s the sixth cut on Mayer’s sixth studio album, “Paradise Falls” — streaming now on iTunes, a week before its Aug. 20 release date.
The song is definitely more Mayer’s style; slow, acoustic and folksy; and not something we are used to hearing from our ferocious girl, but we surely don’t mind. In the endearing declaration it seems that the couple is suggesting that they are over the drama and are ready to concentrate on each other instead.
Mayer sings: “My girl she ain’t the one that I saw coming /Sometimes I don’t know which way to go /And I try to run before but I’m not running anymore.”
Katy responds: “My boy he ain’t the one that I saw coming /And some have said his heart’s too hard to hold /And it takes a little time but you should see him when he shines.”
Now let the assumptions rain down…
We aren’t expecting Mayer to ask Katy for her hand any time soon, but this song definitely hints that that the 35-year-old is finally over his heart breaking ways. Mayer has a rocky relationship record after dating some of Hollywood hottest ladies, but can you expect anything else when the singer has committed a chain of dating faux pas?
Back in 2010 during an interview with Playboy, Mayer broke the don’t kiss and tell rule about his relationships with Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson.
On Jennifer Aniston: “I think she’s still hoping it goes back to 1998. She saw my involvement in technology [twitter] as courting distraction. And I always said, ‘These are the new rules.’”
On Jessica Simpson: “Yeah, that girl is like crack cocaine to me. Have you ever been with a girl who made you want to quit the rest of your life? Did you ever say, ‘I want to quit my life and just fuckin’ snort you?’”
Basically John is so sucky at dating that even Taylor Swift, yes another ex, felt compelled to bash his “dark twisted games” in the song “Dear John.”
In terms of Katy, the two stars broke up for the second time on March of this year but started hanging out again in June, according to The Huffington Post. Now, just two months later they are singing that they are officially back on again, but will they last or at least have a less media driven relationship?
We think so and only because we know that the singer has finally reached dating maturity. Back in April, a month after the breakup, he told Ellen DeGeneres that “it was a very private relationship going in, it was a private relationship during and it’s a private relationship still.” About damn time Johnny!
Let us know if you’re happy that John and Katy are back and if you think they’ll last.
