This Week In Movies: ‘Robocop,’ ‘About Last Night’ ‘Endless Love’

Eleven movie releases. This week’s movies offers remakes, some romance and action, but there are no Nicholas Sparks or Rob Reiner nor Nora Ephron inspired films to hitch your heart, money and time on. Nevertheless, out of all these films, the new Robocop remake seems entertaining and captivating. Also, About Last Night, another remake, looks like a laugher with Kevin Hart, who is quickly rising to be one of Hollywood’s biggest box-office stars. The rest are French romance films that seem interesting enough to look at their trailers.

11. Beijing Love Story (R, 122 min, Romance)
Director: Chen Sicheng
Cast: Tony Leung Ka Fai, Gaowa Siqin, Xuebing Wang
Synopsis: Different generations look at love, romance and commitment, all from a uniquely Beijing perspective; a pregnant woman must choose between her husband and an ex-love who comes back into her life, a couple looks toward a trip to Greece to confront their own infidelity, and a young couple must decide whether to listen to their parents’ reason or their emotional heart.

10. Love Is in the Air  (Amour & Turbulences) (96 min, Comedy, Romance)
Director: Alexandre Castagnetti
Cast: Ludivine Sagnier, Nicolas Bedos, Jonathan Cohen
Synopsis: Antoine is a lawyer living in New York. On his way back to France for the final round of a job interview, Antoine finds himself sitting right next to his ex-girlfriend Julie. With a seven-hour flight ahead of them, they are going to have to speak to each other.

Cast: Don McManus, Jay Paulson, Betsy Rue
Synopsis: Lucky Bastard is a “found footage” thriller about a porn website run by Mike (Don McManus) that invites fans to have sex with porn stars. Jay Paulson plays Dave, an eager young fan given a chance to have sex with the fabulous Ashley Saint (Betsy Rue). But everyone gets more than they bargained for in the seemingly mild-mannered Dave… with gruesome results. The film is captured by the “Lucky Bastard” porn cameras for a fresh take on the “found footage” genre.

8. Girl on a Bicycle (R, 101 min, Comedy, Drama, Romance)

Cast: Vincenzo Amato, Nora Tschirner, Paddy Considine
Synopsis: Paolo (Vincenzo Amato), an Italian who drives a Paris tour bus, has just proposed to his true love, the German stewardess, Greta (Nora Tschirner), when the young French beauty, Cécile (Louise Monot) pulls up beside his bus on her bicycle – and, in short order, Paolo, following some very bad advice from his friend, Derek (Paddy Considine), finds himself with a German fiancée, a French “wife”, two Australian children who call him “Papa”, and his life upside-down.

7. The Returned (Horror, Thriller)

Synopsis: In a post-zombie world, where the infected live normal lives, their retroviral drug is running out.

6. Jimmy P. (117 min, Drama)

Cast: Benicio Del Toro, Mathieu Amalric, Gina McKee
Synopsis: A Native American Veteran suffering from a series of psychological issues develops a deeply powerful friendship with his progressive French psychoanalyst as they discover and attempt to understand the source of his illness.

5. Adult World (R, 97 min, Comedy)

Cast: John Cusack, Emma Roberts, Armando Riesco (Puerto Rico)
Synopsis: A recent college graduate who believes she’s destined to be a great poet, instead winds up working for an adult book store.

4. Winter’s Tale (PG-13, 118 min, Drama, Fantasy, Mystery, Romance)
Director: Akiva Goldsman
Cast: Colin Farrell, Jessica Brown Findlay, Russell Crowe, Will Smith
Synopsis: A burglar falls for an heiress as she dies in his arms. When he learns that he has the gift of reincarnation, he sets out to save her.

3. Endless Love (PG-13, 103 min, Drama, Romance)

Cast: Gabriella Wilde, Alex Pettyfer, Bruce Greenwood, Robert Patrick
Synopsis: The story of a privileged girl and a charismatic boy whose instant desire sparks a love affair made only more reckless by parents trying to keep them apart.

2. About Last Night (R, Comedy, Romance)

Synopsis: New love for two couples as they journey from the bar to the bedroom and are eventually put to the test in the real world.

Cast: Joel Kinnaman, Douglas Urbanski, Abbie Cornish
Synopsis: Remake of the action classic about Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop – is critically injured in the line of duty, the multinational conglomerate OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer.
