The “1-4-0″: #Noah will surely be controversial, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be provocative, compelling and thrilling.
The Gist: Darren Aronofsky (“Black Swan,” “The Wrestler,” “The Fountain”) brings to Hollywood his personal vision of an epic tale known as “Noah,” about a man chosen by God to undertake a righteous mission before a flood destroys the world.
The Highlights: Aronofsky is out to show off his directing gifts and he delivers one heck of a wallop. Noah is so far the most definitive and innovative adaptation of the man/arc story brought to the visual medium. Bringing his own interpretation to the tale, our director allows us into Noah’s madness both in how obsessed he becomes with accomplishing the task from God to the overwhelming sense of family that ultimately grounds him in conflict. Aronofsky truly creates a complex protagonist that pulls you in from the very start.
The Lowlights: Besides people’s conflict with the creative additions of Aronofsky, there really isn’t much to criticize.
Pay or Nay: Pay. This is one of the great visual spectacles you’ll see this year matched by a memorable and superb performance by Russell Crowe.
