The â1-4-0â³: Did you ever imagine Rocky as a British salsa dancer? Itâs just as funny as it sounds, and thanks to @CubanFury itâs now real!
The Gist:  Beneath Bruce Garrett’s (Nick Frost) under-confident, overweight exterior, the passionate heart of a salsa king lies dormant. Now, Julia (Rashida Jones), his smart, funny, gorgeous new American boss is about to reignite his Latin fire. Spotlight hits, sweat drips, heels click – Nick Frost is Cuban Fury.
The Highlights: These types of comedies are great because they donât have to worry about being so posh and Hollywood, they just take an idea and let it flow organically. Yes, of course that allows for extremely cheesy moments (like all the adolescent sex jokes) but thatâs part of the fun, comedy shouldnât take it self seriously anyway. Nick Frost does an excellent job playing the underdog in the film. As the audience, you find yourself immediately identifying with Bruce Garret much in the same way that you did with Rocky â weâve all felt like the loser and have been stepped on sometime in our lives â and throughout the film all you do is cheer for Bruce to become the master of salsa and get the girl in the end. Rashida was also an unexpected surprise as she mastered the dance floor with ease â not only did she have great lifts and footwork, but she had natural rhythm that just effortlessly flowed out of her.
Talking about salsa, another great highlight was the soundtrack. The film truly had some the best old and contemporary Latin music â a tip of the hat in honor of Latin culture â it was so good that I could barely contain myself from dancing in my seat.
The Lowlights: THERE WAS NO KISS! How does the superhero not get a kiss at the end? That was definitely the biggest lowlight. I also wished that Rashidaâs character had a bigger presence in the film only because the audience doesnât get the full effect of her comedic abilities as the story focuses more on the conflict between Bruce and his alpha-male office nemesis Drew (Chris OâDowd).
Pay or Nay: Pay! Itâs an easy, carefree comedy that will guarantee nonstop laughs and might even inspire you to be a little braver.
