Colombian Nobel Prize for Literature winner and Best-Selling Latin American writer, Gabriel García Márquez, will have a new documentary titled, Gabo: The Creation of Gabriel García Márquez, coming to a theater near you soon.
Icarus Films announced its acquisition of all North American distribution rights to, and the release of the documentary. This new documentary feature film, an international co-production (see below) directed by the Barcelona-based director Justin Webster and filmed in Colombia, Cuba, France, Mexico, Spain and the U.S., is a probing and definitive portrait of the Nobel Prize-winning author of 100 Years of Solitude and many other works of “magic realism.”
Gabo: The Creation of Gabriel García Márquez explores the question – how did a boy from a tiny town on the Caribbean coast of Colombia become a writer who won the hearts of millions around the world and whose work changed our perception of reality?
The film is a story about the incredible power of human imagination as it follows the interwoven threads of García Márquez’s life and work.
In addition to his brother and sister, the film’s interviewees include the Colombian writers María Jimena Duzán and Juan Gabriel Vásquez; Márquez biographer Gerald Martin; Márquez literary agent Carmen Balcells; New Yorker writer Jon Lee Anderson; and former presidents of Colombia and the U.S. César Gaviria and Bill Clinton.
