We’re beginning the second week of November (jeez, holidays are already here!) and as we march down the award season months, this particular week we see a putative award season film from Ang Lee - Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk. This film has had some buzz, not only for a Lee film being released, but also because of the new technology it is using.  The movie was shot in 120 frames-per-second 3D with 4K clarity. People have already complained it looks “fake” and it is “distracting”. Nevertheless, critics are mixed about it and it looks like it won’t live up to the hype nor to “Life of Pi”.   We’re also seeing this week a Top 10 2016 movie and potential Oscar Best Picture film in Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi film Arrival. It’s a slow burn, but one with profound themes on communication and existentialism. Some docs are also releasing that seem interesting, but one film I’m looking forward to is Almost Christmas. It follows in the vein of Last Holiday or The Best Man Holiday, where images of family black life around the holidays that Hollywood rarely presents. Listen to our podcast for our in-depth reviews of this week’s releases and more. What movie will you watch?Â
