The 2020 New York Film Festival: Virtual Edition
This year’s festival, taking place amidst unprecedented times, will embrace the challenges of the pandemic where people are looking for a virtual calendar of events to stay home but entertain themselves as if they were out. The 2020 edition will feature a rich selection of 25 feature films from various countries, underscoring the festival’s commitment to diversity and the art of cinema.
Highlighted among the must-see NYFF films are:
Nicolás Pereda’s “Fauna” introduces audiences to a unique blend of realism and absurdity, weaving a narrative that subtly critiques societal norms and expectations through a metafictional lens. The film’s narrative intricacies invite viewers into a reflective dialogue on the nature of storytelling and identity.
“Tragic Jungle,” directed by Yulene Olaizola, immerses viewers in the dense and perilous landscapes of the Mayan jungle. This film tells a gripping tale of survival and mysticism set in the 1920s, as a young woman flees an arranged marriage, only to encounter forces both human and supernatural that blur the lines between myth and reality.
In addition to the main slate, the NYFF will host Q&As, panel discussions, and special events to deepen the engagement between filmmakers and audiences. As the festival moves online, it invites movie lovers to explore its virtual cinema offerings, from the comfort of their homes.
The NYFF’s adaptation to a hybrid format not only ensures the safety of its attendees but also expands its reach, allowing a nationwide audience to experience the artistry and diversity of its selections. Also, check out John Waters‘ new poster for the 58th NYFF and the NYFF website for more info.
