Cuban actors Andy García and Néstor Carbonell are reuniting to topline Pedro Pan. The film is a historical thriller about the real-life operation that evacuated 14,000 Cuban children to the U.S. during Fidel Castro’s revolution.
The ensemble cast also includes Danny Pino (“Mayans M.C.”) and Paz Vega (“Spanglish”). Richie Adams (“The Road Dance”) will direct from a script he co-wrote with Bart Gavigan. Principal photography begins in November in Mexico.
True Story of Largest Child Refugee Exodus
The film dramatizes Operation Pedro Pan. This 1960-62 clandestine mission became the largest child refugee exodus in the Western Hemisphere. The story follows a Cuban socialite, English schoolteacher, and Irish Catholic priest. They organize the rescue of children from communist indoctrination. Parents sent their kids to America alone rather than risk their futures under Castro.

Star-Studded Cast Assembles for Historical Drama
The project marks a powerful reunion of Cuban-American talent. García returns to Cuban narratives that defined some of his memorable roles in The Lost City and For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story. Carbonell, who worked previously with García in The Lost City, recently earned an Emmy for the epic series Shogun while showcasing his range in TV and film like The Morning Show and The Dark Knight while still playing Latino characters.
Composer Carlos José Alvarez, whose parents were among the Pedro Pan children, created the story. Steve Shapiro, Adams, Alvarez, and Liz and Ken Whitney are producing. David Frankel (“The Devil Wears Prada”) and Brent Miller executive produce. Javier Aguirresarobe (“Thor: Ragnarok”) is director of photography.
CAA and Linden Entertainment represent García; Independent Artist Group and Thruline Entertainment represent Carbonell; Untitled Entertainment, The Way and Felker Toczek Suddleson McGinnis Ryan LLP represent Leech; Gersh and manager Geordie Frey represent Pino; and Orson Salazar represents Vega.
