Honduran actress America Ferrera and her husband Ryan Piers Williams have begun to look into the struggles of their relationship. No, they are not breaking up, even better they are actually teaming up on a new Indie Film “X/Y.”
According to Deadline.com, Ferrera and Williams are producing the film as well as starring in it as a couple: Silvia and Mark. The film looks inside the lives and minds of a group is friends in New York City by exploring the challenges of communication and connecting.
The group of friends is played by a variety of actors and actresses that will surely bring depth to the film. Actors include Melonie Diaz, rapper Common, Jon Paul Philips, Dree Hemingway, Adam Rapp, Maria Dizzia, David Harbour, and Ann Dowd. Shooting for the film began today in New York.
There is no doubt that Ferrera and indie films go together like burgers and fries, milk and cookies, and whatever other food items you think are perfect together. It is in these indie roles that she takes her acting to another level. Back in 2010, she starred the as the winner of the best international film at the 2010 Edinburgh Film Festival, “The Dry Land” also directed by her husband. She fearlessly played the young wife of a soldier that returns back home after fighting the war in Iraq.
I personally look forward to seeing Ferrera back on a smaller-budget film. When I think of her I think of two things: “Real Women Have Curves” and the ABC series “Ugly Betty.” Although the later won the actress several awards including a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Series Musical or Comedy, and Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, among others it was her performance on “Real Women Have Curves” that put her on the map as an actress to watch and made a whole bunch of Latinas damns proud to have some curves.
While we wait for the film to be released tell us what you think about America Ferrera and what you want to see from her new role.
