New Trailer: ‘Dom Hemingway’ Starring Jude Law, Demián Bichir

09.23.2013 | By |

Jude Law has never seemed to me like a leading star. A) He looks too pretty to me for me to take him seriously in a heavyweight role, B) He’s a tiny pinch of a man that looks like the wind would blow him away. Read More

This Week In Movies… ‘Riddick,’ ‘Salinger,’ ‘Mission Park’

09.3.2013 | By |

Sixteen movie releases. This is one of the rare weeks where half of the new Hollywood releases are documentaries and my most anticipated viewing is a documentary as well – Salinger. What is it? Perhaps it’s the Labor Day dates that aren’t too kind to studio pockets, perhaps it’s the public demand for more informative films and less escapism. “Why read a book when you can watch the documentary?” Or maybe it’s just a coincidence. New Trailer! ‘Fading Gigolo’ with Woody Allen and Sofia Vergara

08.14.2013 | By |

Would you ever have thought that Woody Allen would be teaming up with Barranquillera Sofia Vergara in a movie? The mere thought is already funny and they’re not even the lead stars. The real protagonist is John Turturro who directs and stars.  Read More

Leaked Trailer! ‘Grudge Match,’ Rocky vs. Jake La Motta

08.12.2013 | By |

I thought this movie would never get made. I never thought Sylvester Stallone would actually do a knock-off Rocky movie and I never thought Robert De Niro would ever return to a boxing film. I was obviously wrong on all levels.  Read More

Watch: ‘Enough Said’ Trailer starring James Gandolfini

08.6.2013 | By |

It’s incredible to think James Gandolfini has passed away. I still can’t believe it. Which is why I’m very thrilled to see the first trailer in one of his final performances in Nicole Holofcener‘s Enough Said, which debuts next month at Toronto before Fox Searchlight gives it a September 20 release.

Gandolfini stars opposite Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Toni Collette, and Catherine Keener in the comedy about a divorced woman who decides to pursue the man she’s interested in and learns he’s her new friend’s ex-husband. The whole plot seems hilarious and we get to see a different side to Gandolfini we don’t see often – the tender teddy bear.

Gandolfini’s last movie will be Animal Rescue, a crime-drama centered around a lost pit bull, a wannabe scam artist, and a killing. That film will be released next year.

08.5.2013 | By |

Sony Pictures just released the new international trailer of “One Direction: This Is Us“. There are some slight changes compared to the US version but it all gives a great insight to the phenomenon that is “1D” (you hardcore fans know what I’m talking about). Will this movie be a success? What An Awesome Trailer! ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’

07.30.2013 | By |

Once a year, a trailer comes along that absorbs you from the first frame to the last. Whether it was its cinematography, color palette, CGI or story line, or maybe a fusion of all the aforementioned, you have just witnessed something special. Comic actor, now turned director, Ben Stiller releases The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and its first trailer is to be sensorially engulfed. I almost feel like I saw an art exhibition, not a trailer. Then again… isn’t film art? Read More

This Week In Movies… ‘The Canyons,’ ‘Europa Report,’ ‘Drift’

07.29.2013 | By |

Unlike the previous two weeks, this particular week of theatrical releases doesn’t really have anything I’d trip over to see. I mean, Smurfs 2 is on the menu, that should tell you what us moviegoers are dealing with here. Perhaps the more interesting of the bunch are Europa Report for its premise, a film directed by Ecuadorian Sebastian Cordero starring Sharlto Copley (District 9) and The Canyons anchored by Lindsay Lohan. The latter seems to be the one to see this week for the pop culture puns and references she begets. Read the rest of the plot lines and see who’s starring in them… something just might catch your eye. Read More

This week in movies… The Wolverine, Blue Jasmine, Apt 1303

07.22.2013 | By |

This is my second week writing my “This week in movies…” feature. It is a preview of the films coming out this week with their adjoining trailer and synopsis. I have to say, I’m discovering some interesting finds for you during my research. There are 11 movies being released this week and 7 of them are independent films with limited releases and/or available On Demand for home viewing. From the indie circuit, I must admit, the premises all sound worth watching, such as Drug War from Asian director Johnnie To. It’s the French Connection meets The Wire. Also The Time Being, a mystery surrounding a millionaire and an artist and Frankenstein’s Army, a movie that looks too fun to ignore.  Come back this Thursday where I’ll have my reviews of what I have seen. In the meantime, I rank the films in descending order from least anticipated to my most anticipated watch. Read More
