With the conversion of animation to live-action, Disney could have hit stardust gold. Cinderella is the first experiment from the Walt Disney company to “refresh” their animated legacy properties to “real life”. If successful, you will see Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Tangled and yes, Frozen, be adapted to the big screen with real actors. Imagine a Frozen live-action movie? We’ve seen glimpses of how it would look like through the Broadway shows, but film is a whole other medium and beast. The amount of money to be generated from recycling old content is a potential game-changer for the Disney’s film division. Only time will tell if it works, but we at least have this trailer for now to judge it on. Have a look! Read More

Despite a terrific performance from Jake Gyllenhaal and an interesting premise, the film’s gloomy and gritty approach only accomplishes a glimpse of the truth of how that field of the TV newsroom operates.

The 1-4-0: #Birdman is one of the best movies of 2014. It’s a psychological dark dramedy that probes themes of relevance and the ephemerality of success. Read More

We’re in the middle of October and films are beginning to become better. Some of the most compelling pieces are Brad Pitt’s war movie Fury (interested to know if it will be a Monuments Men failure or an Oscar buzz piece of cinema), Mexican director Jorge R. Gutierrez animation The Book Of Life (which has Guillermo del Toro on board as producer), plus the aspiring Best Pic Birdman from another Mexican director in Alejandro González Iñárritu. In Dear White People, this witty, smart film which tackles racism and prejudice, is easily one of the more interesting films to see this week. After the jump, you’ll see a list ranked by order of my interest. Read More
