This time around, May will not only brighten up your winter blues but it will also warm up your TV set with a special presentation of one of the biggest Latin icons of our era.
On May 3 HBO Latino presents “The King Stays King – Sold Out at Madison Square Garden” a Romeo Santos concert special that will show highlights from the bachatero’s three sold-out concerts at the Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The nearly 2-hour special – which will be presented on HBO GO and on HBO On Demand within documentaries, specials, and feature films – features the Bronx native performing many of his hits, exclusive interviews, footage of the days leading up to the concert, and onstage performances with P. Diddy, Usher, Wisin & Yandel among others.
“The King Stays King” concert tour which began back in 2012, is the celebration of the singer’s break from his former group, Aventura, the beginning of his solo career, and his first solo album “Formula Vol. 1” which was recognized by Billboard as the No. 1 selling Latin album of 2012 and has been certified triple platinum in sales.
In order to heighten your viewing experience, as you watch Romeo on your TV, HBO Latino is implementing a Second Screen application through Facebook.com/HBOLatino which simultaneously allows you to have VIP access from any digital device. This application unlocks interviews with The King and his team, trivia, facts that will make you the ultimate fan like, how he prepares for a show and what his favorite food is, and other exclusive content.
This is an amazing way for fans to not only experience Romeo’s music but to get to know him on a deeper level through social media. This is the first time I’ve ever heard of a TV special that is enhanced by interactive media features and has no doubt in mind that it is the way of the feature. Today singers are making most of their money through concerts but with an unstable economy, fans can’t afford to see their favorite artists live to have this amazing opportunity to get just as close but from the comfort of their homes.
If you are a fan of El Rey del la Bachata you have to see one of his concerts whether live or from home. I had the opportunity to experience a concert live and although I was not a big fan going in, I was definitely one coming out. Even though the show started late, Romeo gave the audience his all in the two and half hours that he graced the stage. He sang everything from old-school Aventura songs like “Cuando Volveras” to songs from his first solo album like “Promise” he also invited members of the audience to sing onstage for a contest, allowed one of his fans to propose to his girlfriend in the middle of the show and shook hands with many screaming women and even some guys.
It is quite rare for an artist of his caliber to allow his audience that much connection and love so if you want to partake in that one of kind experience tune in to HBO Latino this Friday at 8:00 p.m. ET or catch the encore presentation this Cinco de Mayo at 7:00 p.m. ET.
