Jada Pinkett-Smith speaking in Spanish? Yes, that’s right, just another sign that non-Hispanic Hollywood celebrities are becoming obsessed with speaking Spanish. But this one came as a surprise to us since it’s been Will Smith who has flexed his español for the last decade.
In promotion for her latest animated movie Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, which became the #1 movie in America over Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, Jada decided to do her interview mostly in Spanish with our bilingual Associate Editor, Karen Posada. How did she do? Not bad! As the video demonstrates, Jada understands Spanish really well and doesn’t have that bad of an accent.
The movie is also really fun and provided some of the best 3D we’ve seen all year. The film is smartly written, with a fast pace and humor that most adults can enjoy.
While she flexed her Spanish muscles, Karen managed to extract some really interesting Latino tidbits that are sure to be making news this year. According to Pinkett-Smith, she’s currently shooting a movie with Mexican actress Salma Hayek regarding human trafficking and she’s looking into shooting a movie in Colombia, perhaps in Spanish. Will her husband Will Smith and her do a movie together in Spanish? Hmmm.

How do a lion, zebra, hippo, giraffe, four penguins, two monkeys, and three lemurs travel through Europe without attracting attention? They join a traveling circus.
