When the 1998 remake failed to surpass its 1956 predecessor, “Godzilla” seemed doomed to being forgotten instead of forever praised as one of the most imposing symbols in pop culture. But come this May that might all change as director Gareth Edwards, gives this Japanese classic another Hollywood stab.
The second trailer shows the slow continuous buildup of the characters’ fear and their realization that they are dealing with something much more powerful than they ever imagined. The 2 minutes and 32 seconds also promise that the film will be action packed.
“Godzilla” stars Bryan Cranston, who’s gained a lot of traction in television and film with his roles in “Breaking Bad” and “Argo,” and who in the trailer seems to bring that same grittiness from his past characters to his new role as Joe Brody. It also stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins and David Strathairn. The film is set to be released on May 16, 2014 and is expected to be presented in 3D, 2D and IMAX in select theaters.
Synopsis: An epic rebirth to Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.
What did you think of the trailer? Do you think it will finally exceed the 1956 classic?
