Guatemalan Oscar Isaac’s new trailer for ‘Llewyn Davis’

01.24.2013 | By |

Guatemalan Oscar Isaac's new trailer for 'Llewyn Davis'

Latinos are still kicking ass into 2013. Guatemalan actor Oscar Isaac will be starring (not playing an extra or doing the thug cameo with a line or two or any stereotypical roles that suggest the ignorance of casting directors) in the new Coen Bros. indie film “Inside Llewyn Davis” based on the life of musician Dave van Ronk, who played a part in the Greenwich Village coffeehouse scene that played a large part in the New York folk scene of the ’60s.

We have the trailer for you to see Isaac in action. The film has shades of James Mangold’s ‘Walk the Line‘ starring Joaquin Phoenix (born in Puerto Rico, but not of Puerto Rican descent). From what I saw in the trailer, it looks depressing and heartbreaking. On the other hand, a great supporting cast led by Carey Mulligan (who worked with Isaac in Drive before), John Goodman,  F. Murray Abraham and Justin Timberlake give a reason to watch. Read More

'Iron Man 3': The official theatrical trailer!

It’s finally here! The complete and official IRON MAN 3 trailer! It was worth the wait and boy does it ever deliver! This erases the failure of the last one, part 2, which was a complete mess. We see Tony Stark/Iron Man finding his world reduced to rubble by a malevolent enemy and he must use his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him as he seeks to destroy the enemy and his cohorts.

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, “Iron Man 3” is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce and Shane Black and is based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of “Tales of Suspense” (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with “The Invincible Iron Man” (#1) in May of 1968.

The plot: Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

The film releases May 3, 2013, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Fist official trailer of Steven Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln’

09.14.2012 | By |

Fist official trailer of Steven Spielberg's 'Lincoln'

The first full official trailer for Steven Spielberg‘s Lincoln is now out.

Based on the book from Doris Kearns Goodwin’s non-fiction best-seller “Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln,” Spielberg gets back behind the camera to direct two-time Academy Award winner Daniel Day-Lewis in a revealing drama that focuses on the 16th President Abraham Lincoln’s tumultuous final months in office. In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come.

Liam Neeson spent several years attached to reunite with his Schindler’s List director on the project, but took a pass in 2010. Pulitzer Prize-winner Tony Kushner handled scripting duties on Lincoln, reuniting him with Spielberg after their previous historical drama collaboration on Munich. Kushner’s capacity for crafting eloquent dialogue should befit the conversation-heavy proceedings in Lincoln; his screenplay also shouldn’t suffer from the same problems as other biographies more sprawling in scope, such as Clint Eastwood’s (clunky) J. Edgar.

This is the second Lincoln movie this year, similar to what Snow White went through. Spielberg elaborated on that idea, saying:“Our movie is really about a working leader who must make tough decisions and get things done in the face of overwhelming opposition… [We begin with] Lincoln’s realization that the Emancipation Proclamation, the thing he is most known for, was simply a war powers act that would easily be struck down by any number of lawyers after the cessation of hostilities after the Civil War. He needed to abolish slavery by constitutional measure — and that’s where we start.”

Lincoln stars Oscar-winners Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph-Gordon Levitt (The Dark Knight Rises), David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck.), John Hawkes (Martha Marcy May Marlene), Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen), Jared Harris (Mad Men), Lee Pace (Pushing Daisies), Walton Goggins (Justified), James Spader (Boston Legal), and Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man).

Lincoln begins a limited U.S. theatrical release on November 9th, 2012 (it opens wider on the 16th).

‘On the Road’: New trailer from Walter Salles

08.31.2012 | By |

'On the Road': New trailer from Walter Salles

There’s a new trailer for Brazilian filmmaker Walter Salles‘ “On the Road” based on Jack Kerouac‘s classic homonym book.

Salles, known for such great films such as “Central Station“, nominated for two Academy Awards, and “Diarios de Motocicleta” starring Gael García Bernal, will release the film on December 21st, but not before we get some visuals via the second trailer.

The two main characters of the book are the narrator, Salvatore “Sal” Paradise, and his new friend Dean Moriarty, much admired for his carefree attitude and sense for adventure, a free-spirited maverick eager to explore all kicks and an inspiration and catalyst for Sal’s travels. The novel contains five parts, three of them describing road trips. The narrative takes place in the years 1947 to 1950, is full of Americana, and marks a specific era in jazz history, “somewhere between its Charlie Parker Ornithology period and another period that began with Miles Davis.”

The novel is largely autobiographical, Sal being the alter ego of the author and Dean standing for Neal Cassady. The epic nature of the adventures and the text itself creates a tremendous sense of meaning and purpose for the themes and lessons. Kerouac provides not only the story of a literal journey but also that of an intense internal quest and a pursuit of freedom and self-determination.

Spanish language actors Viggo Mortensen and Alice Braga are part of the cast and I like to think they’re the best part of the movie. Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart  and Sam Riley form the central trio of the adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s novel.

IFC Films will release “On the Road” in December. Take a look at the movie…

‘The Amazing Spider-Man’: New Australian trailer!

05.29.2012 | By |

'The Amazing Spider-Man': New Australian trailer!

A movie trailer can often make or destroy a film, especially a blockbuster film. It all depends on which part of the story the studio decides to focus on. In the case of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’, Columbia Pictures focused on telling the origins of Spider-Man and his search for his abandonment by his parents to American audiences. But that’s not the case in Australia where their new trailer for the arachnid hero is much more entertaining, more balanced with action and humor and less oriented to Spidey’s origins.

To be frank, this is the best preview of the film we’ve seen, and if American audiences had seen this first, we would be discussing how tough the competition would be against “The Avengers“. The American versions of the Spidey trailers are dark in tone, dramatic, and do not have the trademark humor with which we grew up reading in the Marvel comics and Saturday morning cartoons.

The Australian international trailer gives us some new scenes we can sink our teeth into such as The Lizard dialogue, and interactions with Parker and Gwen Stacy.

“The Amazing Spider-Man” opens on July 3 in the United States.
