Karl Urban plays the character of Judge Dredd on ‘Dredd 3D’ Lionsgate Rated R film, where in a violent futuristic city the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner; he teams up with Anderson (Olivia Thirlby) a trainee to take down a gang that deals a reality-altering drug, called SLO-MO.
The film is derived from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra successful comic book from the 70’s. Sylvester Stallone played this same character in the film ‘Judge Dredd’ from 1995, which didn’t do so well, but fortunately this one redeems it, as it is one of the best 3D action films that we’ve seen all year thanks to director Pete Travis’ work. In promotion for her latest animated movie Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, which became the #1 movie in America over Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, Jada decided to do her interview mostly in Spanish with our bilingual Associate Editor, Karen Posada. Mexican-American actor Walter Perez can pat himself on the back with Thor’s Hammer with a grin on his face from here to Asgard because he achieved just that!
Perez is one of the up and coming rising stars in the highly competitive Hollywood business. It’s even more competitive when you are a Latino actor, because of the dearth of roles out there for Hispanics. What does it take to be a ‘Bad Ass‘ in Hollywood? Just ask Puerto Rican-Dominican actor Shalim Ortiz (Heroes), who seems to wear it as a badge in his young, but prolific acting career. From the USA to Mexico and back, English or Spanish, this bilingual, bicultural actor is working towards making a name for himself rather quickly in the tough turf of the acting business.
His latest cinematic effort is an indie action movie called ‘BAD ASS‘ starring Danny Trejo (Machete). A Vietnam veteran who becomes a local hero after saving a man from attackers on a city bus decides to take action when his best friend is murdered and the police show little interest in solving the crime. Ortiz plays the young Trejo, who went to war and is down on his luck. But don’t mess with him, he might just break your neck. Read More
