Exclusive! Argo’s Real Tony Mendez: “I’m Not Hispanic”

01.10.2013 | By |

For the Latino moviegoers who have already seen Argo or those who will now see it due to the 7 Oscar nominations it received today from the Academy, you might be submerged into the controversy that has arisen from the big reveal in the movie… Ben Affleck who directs and stars in “Argo“, is named Tony Mendez, an obvious Latino. So why did Affleck (an Irish guy) play him as opposed to a true Latino actor? What did Tony Mendez, the real life CIA agent that inspired the film, think? And is he really Latino (I couldn’t find any detailed news on his heritage on the web)? Many Latinos are upset at Affleck’s logic here so I decided to go to the main source – Mendez himself. In this exclusive interview, I asked him about his Latino roots, Affleck’s decision not to hire a Latino thespian to play the lead role and much, much more. Read More

‘Killing Them Softly’: Interview with director Andrew Dominik

11.27.2012 | By |

Although ‘Killing Them Softly’ director Andrew Dominik has been in the business for over a decade, he doesn’t have a long catalog of films to his name, but the few truly speak wonders of his talent. His first film ‘Chopper’ came out in 2000, a comedic crime biography film based on the story of an Australian criminal, which received three awards from the Australian film institute including best director. It gave the New Zealand born director plenty of attention. So much so, that Brad Pitt couldn’t wait to work with him for his second directed film ‘The assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford’ yet another crime biography but this time dramatic film. This one also went on to get great reviews and although it had some problems with the studio thanks to the big name attached it finally came out in 2007. Five years later his third film a crime drama thriller ‘Killing Them Softly’ is here and will open this Friday, November 30th nation wide. Read More

Video Interview: Stars of "Silent Hill: Revelation 3D"

10.27.2012 | By |

Halloween is upon us and the latest horror film to be making the rounds is “Silent Hill:Revelation 3D”. Is it better than ‘Sinister,’ ‘V/H/S,’ ‘REC 3’ or ‘Silent House’? No, but the visuals are definitely an attraction. Based on the popular videogames, ‘Silent Hill 3’ takes into a nerve-wracking world few can live in. When her father disappears, Heather Mason (Adelaide Clemens) is drawn into a strange and terrifying alternate reality that holds answers to the horrific nightmares that have plagued her since childhood.

The movie was not screened to the regular press during week of release, just to the select few that were doing the interviews to the lead cast members. Our very own Karen Posada was one of them and asked them to give us an inside look at:  Read More

‘Dredd 3D’: 3 questions with Karl Urban

09.17.2012 | By |

Karl Urban plays the character of Judge Dredd on ‘Dredd 3DLionsgate Rated R film, where in a violent futuristic city the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner; he teams up with Anderson (Olivia Thirlby) a trainee to take down a gang that deals a reality-altering drug, called SLO-MO.

The film is derived from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra successful comic book from the 70’s. Sylvester Stallone played this same character in the film ‘Judge Dredd’ from 1995, which didn’t do so well, but fortunately this one redeems it, as it is one of the best 3D action films that we’ve seen all year thanks to director Pete Travis’ work. I had the opportunity to chat with the star of the film; Karl Urban where he told me about the challenges he encountered as well as what attracted him to the film and the talk of possible sequels. Jada Pinkett-Smith speaks Spanish!

06.11.2012 | By |

Jada Pinkett-Smith speaking in Spanish? Yes, that’s right, just another sign that non-Hispanic Hollywood celebrities are becoming obsessed with speaking Spanish. But this one came as a surprise to us since it’s been Will Smith who has flexed his español for the last decade.

In promotion for her latest animated movie Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, which became the #1 movie in America over Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, Jada decided to do her interview mostly in Spanish with our bilingual Associate Editor, Karen Posada. How did she do? Not bad! As the video demonstrates, Jada understands Spanish really well and doesn’t have that bad of an accent. Read More
