Watch: Jennifer Lopez talks NUVOtv launch

07.22.2013 | By |

When I first heard that Jennifer Lopez was becoming a TV executive, I must confess, I thought it was just marketing hype. But after a very good upfront presentation and a stream of articles on the programming front, I have to personally congratulate her for really making this new venture real.

As partner and Chief Creative Officer of NUVOtv (bicultural network for US Hispanics), Lopez is in charge of contributing programming to the network, work on strategy and assist in marketing.

I just received a video of Lopez herself talking about the new NUVOtv launch. Watch it above! Read More

Is Shalim Ortiz The Future of Acting?

07.2.2013 | By |

Shalim Ortiz, of Dominican and Puerto Rican heritage, is a bilingual actor who speaks fluent Spanish and English. He has worked in both languages throughout his career and it has lead to this – an actor who can now be seen weekly on two shows in two languages – Telemundo’s “Dama y Obrero” and Starz’s “Magic City”. Is this the future of acting? Will all actors one day be bilingual and work in two, even three languages? How great is it that if work dries up on one end, there’s a whole other career waiting for him on the other end. Read More

06.9.2013 | By |

Cable network Lifetime is offering a pre-linear sneak peek of its ‘Devious Maids‘ pilot in English and Spanish tonight, June 9th, 2 weeks before its on air premiere. I review the show from a Hispanic perspective and let you now if you should make it a part of your weekly TV viewing.

The 1-4-0: ‘Devious Maids’ is worth a watch for at least the first 2 episodes, but it’s definitely not must see TV the way “Desperate Housewives was season 1.

The Gist: We follow five Latina maids with ambition and dreams of their own while working for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills.  Read More

Lifetime’s ‘Devious Maids’ Will Now Air Show In Spanish

06.4.2013 | By |

In a first for an English language network, Lifetime is offering a pre-linear sneak peek of its ‘Devious Maids‘ pilot in English and Spanish set for June 9th, 2 weeks before its on-air premiere.

Post-premiere, the network will make each episode of Devious Maids available in both English and Spanish across these platforms the day after its Sunday 10:00 pm ET/PT airing. For its linear telecast, Devious Maids will be available in Spanish to standard definition viewers via the second audio program service.

Executive producers Eva Longoria has a lot riding on this show since her previous effort with NBC – “Ready for Love”– was a dreadful flop. If America doesn’t embrace this show, her career as a producer will look bleak moving forward. Then again look at M. Night Shyamalan‘s career. Read More
