Jennifer Lopez And Viola Davis To Star In Lifetime Film’s ‘Lila and Eve’

A Lifetime Film? Looks like Jennifer Lopez isn’t the A-List star she used to be.

Jennifer Lopez and Viola Davis will be coming soon to a small screen near you. Lifetime Films and A+E Studios are set to produce the independent feature film “Lila and Eve” starring Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee Davis (“The Help,” “Doubt”) and Golden Globe Award nominee Lopez (“Out of Sight,” “Selena”). The film is targeted toward a festival premiere and theatrical release in late 2014/early 2015.

Lila (Davis) is a grief stricken mother living the aftermath of her son’s murder in a drive-by shooting. In order to cope with the pain, she attends a support group where she meets Eve (Lopez), who has lost her daughter. When Lila experiences numerous roadblocks from the police in bringing justice for her son’s slaying, Eve urges Lila to take matters into her own hands. In order to avenge the murder of Lila’s son and track down his killers the two mothers embark on a killing spree of their own as they work to the top of the chain of drug dealers.

The film is executive produced by Davis and directed by Film Independent Spirit Award nominee Charles Stone III (“Drumline,” “Crazy Sexy Cool: The TLC Story”).  Shea Whigham (“American Hustle,” “Boardwalk Empire”) also stars as Detective Holliston, who investigates Lila’s and Eve’s crimes.

This film sounds emotional and ruthless, and I am very interested to see how the two stars will work together on screen. Davis has a successful career focused only on film and television, while JLo has dabbled in a bit of everything, but has only had moderate success when it comes to films. When it comes to music Lopez is undoubtedly at the top of her game and has been since the start of her singing career in 1999, but with acting she can always use a lesson or two. Thankfully, the pop-star will have the talented Davis by her side whose acting repertoire extends back to 1996.
