Last Vegas (Movie Review)

11.1.2013 | By |

Rating:

The “1-4-0”: #LASTVEGAS is a mix of The Hangover meets The Bucket List. You’ll laugh more than expected and the cast just shines through the screen.

The Gist: Four elderly men (Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline) meet up 58 years after stealing some liquor in Brooklyn to celebrate Douglas’s bachelor party in Las Vegas. Comedy ensues.

The Highlights: The charm from the cast and the dialogue. These gentlemen, arguably all legends in their own respect, flood the screen with charisma that will make the most jaded critic or cinephile crack a smile, even a few hearty belly laughs. Although there is a multitude of clichés, in the mouths of our stars, they feel fresh and new.

The Lowlights: There are no real lowlights. That would be to harsh, more like, mediocrity. The story is lame and the production value is sub par, but again, director Jon Turteltaub knew the film’s success would be based on the chemistry of its cast not on its story or plot.

Pay or Nay?: Pay for it. It’s a superb treat seeing Douglas and De Niro in the same film and Freeman to boot. They’re masters of delivering lines, lame or witty, they know how to deliver them and that makes it a delight to watch. Go see it, you will laugh a lot.
