The Most Anticipated Movies and TV Shows Of 2017

01.2.2017 | By |

It is the first Monday of 2017 and I got the chance to be on the TODAY show this morning, the same show Katie Couric co-hosted this week. Alas, I didn’t get a chance to see her, but awesome to know I was feet away from her. This is also my second New Year’s Day segment in a row. Last year we pre-taped, but this morning was live. I discussed the ‘Most Anticipated Movies and TV Shows of 2017’. Check out my personal picks for this year! Read More

Episode 15 – A Discussion on the 3 Best Movies of 2016

12.31.2016 | By |

Christmas is here and instead of repeating a show, why not give you an original episode based upon 3 marvelous films. Joining me to discuss them is Mike Sargeant from WBAI and seen on FOX News and Lisa Rosman from NY1. The movies are La La Land (3:14), Moonlight (7:15) and Arrival (17:55). We also chat a bit about Martin Scorsese’s Silence, Birth of a Nation and diversity in Hollywood. Read More

Jack Rico’s Top 10 Movies Of 2016

12.29.2016 | By |

It’s hard to look back at 2016 and not think how tragic it was to lose our beloved artistic icons. But when it comes to motion pictures, there were a couple of silver linings one can sanguinely lean on as bright spots. Though this was by far the year of superheroes and animated films, it was also the year where we witnessed the Golden Age of African-American storytelling. With remarkable films such as Moonlight, Hidden Figures, Fences, Birth of a Nation, Kicks, Loving, 13th and I Am Not Your Negro in theaters, the outlook for black cinema finally looks hopeful. Women and multiculturalism were also front and center on screen and behind the scenes and no film was more demonstrative of those attributes than Rogue One. Movies, in general, impact people differently and I believe the Top 10 Movies I have selected above not only reflect those qualities but provide the standard of excellence in cinema this year. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Movie Review)

12.13.2016 | By |

The 1-4-0: RogueOne: A Star Wars Story is not a better film experience than #TheForceAwakens, but it is a solid sci-fi, action film that provides high entertainment value and some nostalgic “cameos” for old-school fans. Read More

The New ‘Spider-Man Homecoming’ Trailer Is Here!

12.9.2016 | By |

I’m glad Spider-Man is coming back to the screen with Marvel Studios behind it. It’s what every superhero fan always wanted, but there are some slight problems I can’t get passed. One, the suit. Doesn’t it look cheap to you? Two, this storyline really takes Spidey and Peter Parker to the stone age. He “is not ready to save the world yet.” You can’t wind the character that far back after giving us so many Spidey films since the last  14 years. Hopefully this is the version everyone sticks with.  Read More

‘Transformers 5’ And ‘The Circle’ Trailers Debut!

12.6.2016 | By |

Transformers: The Last Knight is the fifth installment of the Transformers franchise series and is a direct sequel to 2014’s “Transformers: Age of Extinction” which is hitting theaters on June 23, 2017. It’s also Michael Bay‘s final Transformers film to be directed by Bay. The cast includes Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Hopkins, Josh Duhamel, Laura Haddock, Jerrod Carmichael, and Isabela Moner. It looks good. I’m sure Bay is going to go out with a bang. Read More

This Week In Movies: ‘Almost Christmas,’ ‘Arrival,’ ‘Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk’

11.7.2016 | By |

We’re beginning the second week of November (jeez, holidays are already here!) and as we march down the award season months, this particular week we see a putative award season film from Ang Lee - Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk. This film has had some buzz, not only for a Lee film being released, but also because of the new technology it is using.  The movie was shot in 120 frames-per-second 3D with 4K clarity. People have already complained it looks “fake” and it is “distracting”. Nevertheless, critics are mixed about it and it looks like it won’t live up to the hype nor to “Life of Pi”.   Read More

Will These Be The Top 10 Movies Of 2016?

11.4.2016 | By |

So I think we can finally start narrowing down the Top 10 Movies Of 2016. I have not seen several of the films on this list due to the fact they have not screened yet for the New York press, but this list isn’t really an official announcement, it’s more a playful speculation, an educated guess, a curated observation of what I’m hearing from festivals, insider knowledge from studios and fellow critics’ opinions.
