Eleven movie releases. This week’s movies offers remakes, some romance and action, but there are no Nicholas Sparks or Rob Reiner nor Nora Ephron inspired films to hitch your heart, money and time on. Nevertheless, out of all these films, the new Robocop remake seems entertaining and captivating. Also, About Last Night, another remake, looks like a laugher with Kevin Hart, who is quickly rising to be one of Hollywood’s biggest box-office stars. If you’ve never seen a movie with Philip Seymour Hoffman in it, then you’ve missed out on quite a lot. An actor of enormous depth of nuance and subtlety, which he was known to bring to his roles, has been darkened. Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his Manhattan apartment at age 46 this past weekend. The news has shocked the entertainment industry as well as fans who have seen his work. Recognized as being one of the best actors of his generation, Hoffman felt comfortable being the star of a film as much as the character actor in it. A Lifetime Film? Looks like Jennifer Lopez isn’t the A-list star she used to be. Lopez and Viola Davis will be coming soon to a small screen near you. Lifetime Films and A+E Studios are set to produce the independent feature film Lila & Eve starring Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee Davis (The Help, Doubt) and Golden Globe Award nominee Lopez (Out of Sight, Selena).
