If you’ve never seen a movie with Philip Seymour Hoffman in it, then you’ve missed out on quite a lot. An actor of enormous depth of nuance and subtlety, which he was known to bring to his roles, has been darkened. Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his Manhattan apartment at age 46 this past weekend. The news has shocked the entertainment industry as well as fans who have seen his work. Recognized as being one of the best actors of his generation, Hoffman felt comfortable being the star of a film as much as the character actor in it. He gave us some of the more memorable performances you’ll see in the past 25 years in cinema. Read More

A Lifetime Film? Looks like Jennifer Lopez isn’t the A-List star she used to be.
Jennifer Lopez and Viola Davis will be coming soon to a small screen near you. Lifetime Films and A+E Studios are set to produce the independent feature film âLila and Eveâ starring Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee Davis (âThe Help,â âDoubtâ) and Golden Globe Award nominee Lopez (âOut of Sight,â âSelenaâ). The film is targeted toward a festival premiere and theatrical release in late 2014/early 2015. Sony Pictures Classics has released the brand new trailer for the sequel “The Raid 2: Berandal” before its worldwide debut at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. The Raid, in my opinion, was the best action film of 2012 and my hopes are that this Indonesian flick can provide the same doses of ultra-adrenalyn-highly-electric action fun that we were in shock to get with the first one.
The film opens in select theaters March 28. Read More

This is the second year in a row where movies have been at a premium. So tough to pick who and what should be nominated that many people who deserved to be nominated were left out. RUSH by Ron Howard and INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS were perhaps the most noteworthy absences. Nevertheless, PHILOMENA, HER and DALLAS BUYERS CLUB got some well deserved love with 4, 5 and 6 nods respectively. But it was AMERICAN HUSTLE and GRAVITY whom each received 10 nominations. A victory already for Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón.
Here is the complete list of 2014 Oscar nominations:
BEST MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA
12 Years a Slave
Captain Phillips
Gravity
Philomena
American Hustle
The Wolf of Wall Street
Nebraska
Dallas Buyers Club

This past Sunday, the 71st edition of the Golden Globes Awards was highlighted by several surprises and memorable moments. “American Hustle” was the big winner of the night, “12 Years a Slave” won Best Picture and Alfonso Cuarón made history by becoming the first Latin American to win the award for Best Director for “Gravity“. Ultimately, it is my opinion that the Globes erred in some of the selections which the Oscars will hopefully correct this Thursday, Jan. 16th with its nominations. Read More

Every year the power of the Latino consumer grows more and more, and this in turn has forced Hollywood to open its doors (though very slowly) for actual Hispanic movies.
