‘Lengua, Cámara y Acción’: Why Eugenio Derbez’s ‘Instructions Not Included’ Succeeded At The Box Office

09.3.2013 | By |

Hollywood woke up early this week to the story that Eugenio Derbez’s dramedy ‘Instructions Not Included‘ cracked the top 5 movies at the box office this Labor Day weekend. It opened on just 347 screens, and earned $21,614 per theater, more than any other film this weekend! In my weekly syndicated radio segment on the Luis Jimenez Show, “Lengua, Cámara y Acción,” on X96.3FM IN NY, I broke down WHY the movie did so surprisingly well. I also tackled the CBS/Time Warner resolution and discuss the “Fifty Shades of Grey” casting choices! Listen to the radio segment now!

“Lengua, Cámara y Acción” is a radio segment that is a free flowing conversation on Hollywood and the entertainment industry with a dash of wit, humor and information with Jack Rico and radio star, Luis Jimenez. This way, you can keep abreast of what’s happening in Hollywood with a smile. “Lengua, Cámara y Acción” is broadcast every Tuesday at 9:50 AM on X96.3FM.

Getaway (Movie Review)

08.30.2013 | By |

The “1-4-0”: #TheGetaway isn’t as bad as critics say. Yes, it has wild leaps of logic, but its escapism does entertain with its skilled car stunts. Read More

The World’s End (Movie Review)

08.23.2013 | By |

The “1-4-0″: @TWEMovie is a mix of the first 2 Pegg and Frost films – funny, witty, swift cuts and packs and emotional punch beneath it.

The Gist: After an attack of nostalgia, an ol’ high school friend decides to get the boys back together to finish what they started decades ago – complete 12 straight pubs until they reach the king of all pubs… The World’s End. But shit goes horribly wrong again when something stands in their way.

The Highlights: The fact that Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and director Edgar Wright made such an entertaining movie about such a ludicrous premise is just pure talent at work. This movie will connect with people. Why? It explores themes of nostalgia, regrets, bygone youth and growing up.

The Lowlights: The premise can be seen as the weakest link, but the guys make it work. There is a plot twist that is just ridiculous which has shades of Hot Fuzz’s storyline.

Pay or Nay?: Pay for it because it is a very funny film with a level of human connection. Ultimately, these are the types of movies Wright, Pegg and Frost do and we are just lucky to be witnesses to them!

The 5 Worst Supervillains In Movies!

08.15.2013 | By |

The concept of “the villain” is the oldest concept in the universe. It begins with God and The Devil (ya can’t get any older than that). In movies, the villain is considered that character who tries to conquer the world and battles against the hero of the film who tries to stop his diabolical plan. If done well, these malevolent characters can become more memorable than the protagonists themselves (think Darth Vader) or may prove to be a huge failure. And it is exactly the latter why this list was created. With the rise of the superhero genre, more supervillains have made it onto the big screen with deplorable results and it becomes the central subject of my new list…

I give you the 5 worst supervillains in film history… Read More

Leaked Trailer! ‘Grudge Match,’ Rocky vs. Jake La Motta

08.12.2013 | By |

I thought this movie would never get made. I never thought Sylvester Stallone would actually do a knock-off Rocky movie and I never thought Robert De Niro would ever return to a boxing film. I was obviously wrong on all levels.  Read More
