The 1-4-0: #Birdman is one of the best movies of 2014. It’s a psychological dark dramedy that probes themes of relevance and the ephemerality of success.Read More
Director Alejandro González Iñárritu on the set of ‘Birdman’.
We’re in the middle of October and films are beginning to become better. Some of the most compelling pieces are Brad Pitt’s war movie Fury (interested to know if it will be a Monuments Men failure or an Oscar buzz piece of cinema), Mexican director Jorge R. Gutierrez animation The Book Of Life (which has Guillermo del Toro on board as producer), plus the aspiring Best Pic Birdman from another Mexican director in Alejandro González Iñárritu. In Dear White People, this witty, smart film which tackles racism and prejudice, is easily one of the more interesting films to see this week. David Fincher’s film version of Gillian Flynn’s phenomenally successful best seller (adapted by the author) is one wild cinematic ride. At once a grand panoramic vision of middle America, a uniquely disturbing exploration of the fault lines in a marriage, and a comedy that starts black and keeps getting blacker, Gone Girl is a great work of popular art by one of our best filmmakers.

Directed by Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious) and written by Barbara Curry, the film also stars Ryan Guzman, John Corbett and Kristin Chenoweth. Release will be January 23, 2015.Read More
