First Photo of Benicio Del Toro as Pablo Escobar in Paradise Lost

07.2.2013 | By |

And here we have it. The first official photograph of Benicio Del Toro playing Colombian druglord Pablo Escobar in Paradise Lost. I had written an article about the news back in November of 2012 about Del Toro taking the gig after his “savage” performance in Oliver Stone’s Savages. He stole all the scenes in that film and the word was that he could even be nominated come award season time. Even though he wasn’t, his acting left a mark, and producers and directors were alert to him playing a drug lord in a leading role in the future. Read More

Benicio del Toro to be Pablo Escobar in ‘Paradise Lost’!

11.15.2012 | By |

Pablo Escobar. The Colombian druglord who is considered one of the greatest villains in history is coming to Hollywood’s big screen and Benicio del Toro will play him in “Paradise Lost”.

This will be the first Escobar movie that will made of him, even though Telemundo’s current hit novela, “Pablo Escobar, El Patrón del Mal” is like a mini-movie.

His story has been trying to lift off the ground by various directors: The Grey director Joe Carnahan, The Lincoln Lawyer director Brad Furman, and actors were supposed to play him such as: Javier Bardem, Edgar Ramirez, but no go. It’s been in development hell.  Read More

Del Toro and Diaz team up in ‘Agent: Century 21’

Del Toro and Diaz team up in 'Agent: Century 21'

Deadline.com just reported that Latino heavyweights Cameron Diaz and Benicio Del Toro have joined Agent: Century 21.

Adam Hashemi, a first time director, will be making his debut and looks like it will be an action comedy. The script is written by Greg Brooker.

From what has been gathered, Diaz and Del Toro will be part of a story that follows a down-on-her-luck real estate agent who accidentally is caught up in a Mexican drug war (sound a lot like Knight and Day, the movie Diaz did with Tom Cruise).

This pairing is a great sign for Hispanic actors in Hollywood – it says that there are Latinos who can be leads in a Hollywood movie not just supporting actors like. It is also one of the few times two Latinos are the sole protagonists of a big movie in who knows when.

The film is set to start shooting sometime in September.

Savages: New pics with Hayek, Bichir, Del Toro

Savages: New pics with Hayek, Bichir, Del Toro

Latinos are in the house in the new film SAVAGES from Universal Pictures. Benicio del Toro, Demián Bichir and Salma Hayek star in Oliver Stone‘s new film.

We just received some new pics of the cast, plus some of the gringos on it like Grease/Saturday Night Fever star John Travolta and Gossip Girl Blake Lively. Do yourself a favor and check them out below…

Stone who is known for doing gritty movies and getting the best out of his actors through juicy roles, with someone getting an acting nod in this saga, promises one hell of a ride.

Here’s the official synopsis of ‘Savages’: Three-time Oscar®-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone returns to the screen with the ferocious thriller Savages, featuring the all-star ensemble cast of Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Aaron Johnson, John Travolta, Benicio Del Toro, Salma Hayek, Emile Hirsch and Demian Bichir. The film is based on Don Winslow’s best-selling crime novel that was named one of The New York Times’ Top 10 Books of 2010.  Laguna Beach entrepreneurs Ben (Johnson), a peaceful and charitable Buddhist, and his closest friend Chon (Kitsch), a former Navy SEAL and ex-mercenary, run a lucrative, homegrown industry–raising some of the best marijuana ever developed. They also share a one-of-a-kind love with the extraordinary beauty Ophelia (Lively). Life is idyllic in their Southern California town…until the Mexican Baja Cartel decides to move in and demands that the trio partners with them.  When the merciless head of the BC, Elena (Hayek), and her brutal enforcer, Lado (Del Toro), underestimate the unbreakable bond among these three friends, Ben and Chon–with the reluctant, slippery assistance of a dirty DEA agent (Travolta)–wage a seemingly unwinnable war against the cartel. And so begins a series of increasingly vicious ploys and maneuvers in a high stakes, savage battle of wills.

Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn & Jim Carrey are ‘The Three Stooges’!

03.26.2009 | By |

Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn & Jim Carrey are 'The Three Stooges'!

MGM and the Farrelly brothers are closing in on their cast for “The Three Stooges.”

Studio has set Sean Penn to play Larry, and negotiations are underway with Jim Carrey to play Curly, with the actor already making plans to gain 40 pounds to approximate the physical dimensions of Jerome “Curly” Howard.

The studio is zeroing in on Benicio Del Toro to play Moe.

The film is not a biopic, but rather a comedy built around the antics of the three characters that Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Howard played in the Columbia Pictures shorts.

The quest by the Peter and Bobby Farrelly to harness the project spans more than a decade and three studios. They first tried at Columbia, again at Warner Bros., and finally at MGM, where Worldwide Motion Picture Group chairman Mary Parent championed the cause and bought the WB-owned scripts and made a deal with Stooges rights holders C3.

Production will begin in early fall for a release sometime in 2010. The Farrellys, who wrote the script, are producing with their Conundrum partner Bradley Thomas, and Charlie Wessler.

C3 Entertainment principals Earl and Robert Benjamin will be executive producers.

Project will get underway after Penn completes the Asger Leth-directed Universal/Imagine Entertainment drama “Cartel.” He hasn’t done a comedy since the 1989 laffer “We’re No Angels.”

The Farrellys have long had their eyes on Del Toro to play Moe. Del Toro, who’s coming off “Che,” showed comic chops in the Guy Ritchie-directed “Snatch.”

The surprise is the emergence of Carrey to play Curly. Howard established the character as a seminal physical comedian, from the first time he appeared in the first Stooges short in 1934 until he suffered a stroke on the set in 1946.
