Hidden Figures: The Film That Might Change Hollywood

08.15.2016 | By |

I’m watching the Olympics last night as Usain Bolt bolted by all his so-called competitors, including Justin Gatling, and right after his win, NBC aired a TV trailer spot for the film Hidden Figures. The movie stars Taraji P. Henson and tells the incredible untold true story of three brilliant African-American women working at NASA in the 1960s where they served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit. 02.24.2016 | By |

With the academy awards coming up, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver tackles Hollywood whitewashing in a humorous yet unflinching way. 01.30.2015 | By |

Disney this week announced that they created their first ever Latina Princess and her name will be Princess Elena of Avalor. Here’s the catch, she will only exist as part of the Disney Junior cable TV world and not in film which is where the mainstream masses could really have felt her presence. To keep her ensconced from broad platforms such as the movie arena, unlike the African-American Princess in 2009’s The Princess and the Frog, is something that should have all Hispanics pondering on why the decision of relegating her to the whims of 2-7 year olds? Did things not work out with the diverse Princesses concept in film? Read More

2014: The Year Network TV Became Diversified

05.27.2014 | By |

You can probably count on two hands the number of shows that have had a Latino lead or Latino cast in an English-speaking show that aired on network television until 2007 when “George Lopez” had its final episode. But now in 2014 alone there are about 12 shows that have a Hispanic leads or co-stars! It’s obvious that we’ve come a long way, and so in celebration of this feat, here are the shows airing in 2014 that feature Latino talent: Read More
