10.21.2016 | By |

On this ninth episode, I talk about Tom Cruise’s new movie ‘Jack Reacher: Never Go Back’ with my good friend Mike Sargeant as we tackle Tom’s career, his longevity and our opinions on why he doesn’t seem to want to collaborate with another A-List actor (3:20). We also review Broadway’s new family feel-good musical Holiday Inn (24:46) as well as take a look at Ava DuVernay’s Queen Sugar (21:34), and I ask a New Yorker what he’s seeing, listening and downloading (27:43), plus, we recap the most important pop culture news you might have missed this week. Hidden Figures: The Film That Might Change Hollywood

08.15.2016 | By |

I’m watching the Olympics last night as Usain Bolt bolted by all his so-called competitors, including Justin Gatling, and right after his win, NBC aired a TV trailer spot for the film Hidden Figures. The movie stars Taraji P. Henson and tells the incredible untold true story of three brilliant African-American women working at NASA in the 1960s where they served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit. What most stood out to me was my reaction… it was bizarre to see a prestige period Hollywood movie about accomplished black women at the highest levels. And you know why…? Read More

Interview: Rob Reiner On Trump Movie, Sequels, Superheroes And TV

05.9.2016 | By |

When one says the name Rob Reiner, plentiful thoughts of superlatives comes to mind, but what most people associate the name Rob Reiner with is his character Michael ‘Meathead’ Stivic from “All in the Family” and for his romantic-comedy classic “When Harry Met Sally,” at least for this writer. Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice (Movie Review)

03.23.2016 | By |

The 1-4-0: #BatmanvSuperman is an important film that must be seen, but regrettably, it’s difficult not to be left with mixed emotions. Though flaws exist, the immensity of the characters and the significance of the film outweigh any negatives. Read More

Watch The New ‘Ben-Hur’ Movie Trailer!

03.16.2016 | By |

Coming to theatres on August 12, 2016, this remake of Ben-Hur has all the defects of whitewashing, but let’s not get into that right now. Will the film work? Will a historical drama about the Roman Empire work in 2016? There are no major stars, apart from Morgan Freeman in a minor supporting role. What are the expectations? Let’s begin by you seeing it.  Read More

This John OIiver Video Nails EXACTLY Hollywood’s Whitewashing

02.24.2016 | By |

With the academy awards coming up, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver tackles Hollywood whitewashing in a humorous yet unflinching way. The focus of the video is self-explanatory, but this whole idea that there aren’t enough good roles for people of color is utter balderdash. Even when roles do exist, they still can be played by white actors. Just ask Emma Stone. Her portrayal of a half-Asian woman in Aloha is perhaps the most egregious act of whitewashing in the modern era. Read More

Vin Diesel Flips Out When Compared to ‘Last Witch Hunter’ Character

10.23.2015 | By |

Vin Diesel is an enthusiastic one. That’s for sure. During a recent interview for his film The Last Witch Hunter, the Fast & the Furious star decided to flip the switch and ask me what I thought about the action/adventure flick. I compared him to his character Kaulder, a man who is immortal and indestructible but faces loneliness and isolation. There’s a facade the character puts up, all the while consumed by weakness. In many ways, Diesel shares similar traits.  Read More
