This Week In Movies… ‘We Are Your Friends,’ ‘No Escape’

08.25.2015 | By |

This is the last week of August and what better way to close up the month then with some variety films at the big screen. Zac Efron in We are your Friends, a very cool summer film about the life and struggles of an aspiring DJ in today’s electronic music scene. The film No Escape, an action thriller in which we will find a very serious Owen Wilson in a role that we have never seen him play, the action hero.  Read More

This Week In Movies… ‘Straight Outta Compton,’ ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’

08.11.2015 | By |

The second week of August brings us very little cinematic value despite seeing the anticipated hip-hop biopic, Straight Outta Compton, and Guy Ritchie’s The Man From U.N.C.L.E. on the calendar release. Ritchie, the inconsistent, but influential British helmer with a profusion of talent, is back to his lightning speed editing and MTV visual style in the new TV show spy adaptation. Will this film reinvigorate his career?   Read More

This Week In Movies… ‘Inside Out,’ ‘Dope,’ ‘Manglehorn’

06.16.2015 | By |

It’s the second week of June, which means two things: #1) Summer is about to officially begin. #2) Summer movies are hitting the big screen! And this week is proof of that, with films like The Overnight (read our review), a great comedy with Jason Schwartzman, Adam Scott and the very popular Taylor Schilling; about a crazy night between two couples in a Los Angeles home. Also Al Pacino is back with a film that could very well be another one of his classics – Manglehorn. Read More

There are 12 new films being released, from documentaries, to dramas, to true stories and comedies, these films will surely be competing for your attention and money. Some of the big names from the entertainment business are among this week’s releases. If you like gripping stories full of action and drama then you should check out Maggie with Arnold Schwarzenegger. This Week In Movies: ‘Godzilla,’ ‘Million Dollar Arm,’ ‘The Immigrant’

05.12.2014 | By |

The unofficial Summer Movie month of May continues to release less films than April, 13 movie releases total, but they seem to be more intriguing and eye catching. Many are awaiting, arguably, the most anticipated summer movie in ‘Godzilla,’ which is exactly what people think it’s going to be – dark, plausible, fine acting and CGI bonkers. Also Jon Hamm tries to transition over to movies in a Disney film, Joaquin Phoenix is the star of ‘The Immigrant‘ but it seems to be getting no love on buzz. Nevertheless, the other indie titles are worth a look. Peruse at your leisure and see if anything else catches your attention! Read More

This Week In Movies: ‘The Protector 2,’ ‘Spider-Man 2,’ ‘Walk Of Shame’

04.28.2014 | By |

We begin the first week of May 2014 with a whopping 18 movie releases, which is a huge amount of films for one single week, not including all those arriving on VOD. Spider-Man 2 is the biggest movie of the week, but I must confess, the documentary DOCUMENTED caught my eye, as well as Kevin Spacey’s theater doc, NOW and BELLE which has had good buzz since TIFF. But since I like action so much, one usually can’t go wrong with a Tony Jaa action film in THE PROTECTOR 2. Not a bad week, but not a great week either. Nevertheless, peruse at your leisure and see if anything catches your attention. Read More

This Week In Movies: ‘Transcendence,’ ‘Fading Gigolo,’ ‘Heaven Is For Real’

04.15.2014 | By |

We begin the third week of April with a whopping 19 movie releases, which is a huge amount of films for one single week, not including all those arriving on VOD. This is probably one of the worst weeks in movies of the year as well. When Johnny Depp’s biggest competition this week is Marlon Wayans and some bears, that’s got to be a sad state of affairs. I mean, there is a penis documentary called ‘The Final Member’ that sounds like a joke, but it’s true. Despite that, perhaps the most beguiling film of the week is John Turturro’s ‘Fading Gigolo‘ which includes a rare appearance of Woody Allen as an actor in someone else’s film. That in itself is a treat. Peruse the rest of the line-up and see if anything catches your attention. Read More
