Whatever happened to Jackie Chan?

Whatever happened to Jackie Chan?

Whatever happened to Jackie Chan?

The star of such buddy action comedies as the Rush Hour series is set to develop and star in a new English-language action comedy. His last English movie was the remake of ‘The Karate Kid’.

Chan’s as-of-yet untitled action comedy project is scarce of details but here’s what is being said: Reports say that Chan is developing the picture based off of his original idea.  The film would follow a detective (Chan) who is tasked with tracking down an American gambler who owes a debt to the Macau casino syndicate. The untitled project would involve settings in Hong Kong, Macau, Eastern Europe and mainland China.  Chan will produce alongside Esmond Ren of TIMG and David Gerson of InterTitle Films. Chan’s next project is titled Chinese Zodiac, in which his plays a character named Asian Hawk who “searches the world for a set of mystic artifacts – 12 bronze heads of the animals from the Chinese zodiac.”  Chinese Zodiac also stars Oliver Platt, Caitlin Dechelle and, for some reason or another, Kenny G.

Chan wrote, directed, produced and starred in the action-adventure picture, which will debut in Beijing on December 12, 2012.

Details of ‘Men in Black 3’ Premiere and After Party!

Details of 'Men in Black 3' Premiere and After Party!

Wednesday night, ShowBizCafe.com had the pleasure of attending the ‘Men in Black 3’ New York Premiere, and what could very well be described as the best after party of 2012 and perhaps the best party – period – in the Hollywood industry in years.

The red carpet was held at the Ziegfeld theater in Manhattan, considered by this editor to be the best theater in New York. The entire cast showed up, including helmer Barry Sonnenfeld and Latino rapper Pitbull, who raps the theme song of the film. Will Smith, with his large cast of fellow actors, thanked the “Big Apple” for their support and introduced the 3D presentation.

After the screening, we were transported on a shuttle bus to the post premiere party aboard the aircraft carrier Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, which served all types od delicious food and drinks. Moreover, there were fireworks provided by the Grucci group that lasted about 25 minutes, which then gave way to, not one, but two musical performances with rappers Pitbull, and Will Smith and his family, including a reunion with DJ Jazzy Jeff. Pitbull played all his hits like International Love and the MIB3 theme song, and Smith went old school with songs like Summertime and the original and catchy MIB track.

Celebrities like boy band sensation One Direction, Spike Lee, Ethan Cohen and Michael Shannon were on hand to catch the performances of what was an unforgettable night.

I don’t know how much Sony spent putting this night together, but whatever it was, this one is going into the – “Remember that MIB3 party 20 years ago? Nothing like it!” -memory banks.

To get a sense of what we experienced, check out below some of the photographs and videos we took at the premiere and after party. Just insane!

Andy Garcia: “‘Godfather Part 4’ Is In Francis’ Hands”

05.1.2012 | By |

Could one of the greatest franchises in cinema history, The Godfather, get a new sequel with Andy Garcia? I spoke to the Cuban actor about the status of ‘The Godfather Part 4‘, how he did not speak to Luis Guzman about the project, and how he would only do it if Francis Ford Coppola would direct it. Mexican Gerardo Naranjo to direct Fox’s ‘Mountain’

Mexican Gerardo Naranjo to direct Fox's 'Mountain'

For anyone who has rebuked mainstream America for not giving Latinos opoortunities to showcase their talents, then how do you explain Gerardo Naranjo? Yeah, I know what you’re saying… “a good agent and being Hispanic is in vogue.” You might be right, but it’s happening. It’s becoming an American reality, an a normalcy we need to get used to.

According to Deadline.com, 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment are negotiating with Gerardo Naranjo to direct The Mountain Between Us, an adaptation of the Charles Martin novel.

For those of you who don’t know who Gerado Naranjo, he’s coming off Miss Bala, Mexico’s Best Foreign Language Film Oscar submission. It is executive produced by Mexican heavyweights Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna and tells the story of Laura, a young woman whose aspirations of becoming a beauty queen turn against her, delivering her into the hands of a gang that’s terrorizing northern Mexico. Although Laura succeeds in winning the beauty queen crown, her experiences as an unwilling participant in Mexico’s violent war leave her shaken and transformed.

From what we understand, The Mountain Between Us, is adapted by J. Mills Goodloe, and is both a harrowing tale of survival and a love story. Ashley is a writer catching a flight from Salt Lake City and heading East for her wedding. Ben is a doctor returning from a medical conference. When a their flight is cancelled due to a broken de-icer, the strangers agree to charter a ride, only to see the pilot suffer a heart attack and crash into a desolate snowy mountain region. He breaks ribs and she suffers a leg fracture. Fortunately, aside from a doctor he’s an avid climber, and as he struggles to get her down from the mountain in harsh weather, she begins to realize that maybe she was headed to marry the wrong guy.

How will Naranjo fair in his debut? Only time will tell, but we’re rooting for him to establish a reputation of quality work worthy of awards.

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo to direct ‘Highlander’

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo to direct 'Highlander'

The remake of Highlander, which starred Christopher Lambert, has been given the greenlight by Summit Entertainment to have its new director, Spanish filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who directed 28 Weeks Later and now, four years later, has Intruders opening at TIFF, to direct the remake.

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo will direct Summit Entertainment’s re-imagination of the cult film HIGHLANDER co-financed by RCR Media Group.  Summit’s HIGHLANDER is written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway.  Neal H. Mortiz and Peter Davis will produce the project along with Enrique López Lavigne and Belen Atienza.  RCR Media Group’s principles Rui Costa Reis and Eliad Josephson will executive produce the film.  Justin Lin will also executive produce. Summit acquired the rights to remake the cult classic from Davis – Panzer Productions, Inc. in May of 2008.  Production on the film is slated to begin spring of 2012.

The Highlander premise goes like this:

He fought his first battle on the Scottish Highlands in 1536. He will fight his greatest battle on the streets of New York City in 1986. His name is Connor MacLeod. He is immortal. Connor Macleod was born in 1518 in the Highlands of Scotland. In 1536, after facing a mysterious, evil opponent, he survives a fatal stab wound and is banished from his village, for they believe his survival is the work of the Devil. Five years later, Macleod is met by Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez, a swordsman who teaches Macleod the awful truth; he is immortal, one of a race of many who can only die when the head is cut from the body. When one immortal takes the head of another, the loser’s power is absorbed into the winner. Ramirez teaches Macleod the ways of the sword, until Ramirez is tragically killed by Connor’s ultimate opponent, the evil Kurgan, a murderous immortal brute who lusts for the ultimate power of the immortals, “The Prize”; enough power to rule the earth forever. Connor fights his way through the centuries, until the time of the Gathering, when the few immortals who have survived the endless battles come together to fight until only one remains, and that winner will receive The Prize. The time: 1985. The place: New York City. The final fight is about to begin, and in the end, there can be only one.
