Latina leads new 'Hunger Games' spoof movie!

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, “The Starving Games”, the new spoof movie about “The Hunger Games,” has it’s new lead and she is a Latina from Brazil. Her names is Maiara Walsh, and according to her IMDb profile, she is proficient in Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese because of her Brazilian mother.

Spoofmeisters Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, the duo behind “Date Movie,” “Meet the Spartans” and “Vampires Suck”, wrote the script and are directing the parody. The script pokes fun of not just the Suzanne Collins book series but also “The Avengers,” “Sherlock Holmes” and the finale of the Harry Potter franchise.

Walsh will play the lead, a character named “Kantmiss Evershot”, a total play on Jennifer Lawrence’s character name, Katniss Everdeen, from “The Hunger Games”.

For those who are fans of Desperate Housewives, you’ve seen Walsh play Eva Longoria’s niece on some episodes. She has also co-starred as the devious Simone Sinclair on ABC Family’s Switched at Birth and has appeared on The Secret Life of the American Teenager and The CW’s The Vampire Diaries.

Shooting begins this week in New Orleans.
