'The Avengers' passes $600 million in US!

Marvel’s The Avengers is expected to cross the $600 million domestic box office threshold today, becoming one of only three films in history ever to reach this milestone. The Super Hero film’s global total is now an estimated $1,438.3 million, and it stands as the #3 film of all time globally and domestically.

Marvel’s The Avengers opened in North America May 4 with a staggering $207.4 million – the biggest domestic debut of all time – and has been shattering domestic box office records ever since including the industry’s all-time second weekend record with $103 million; fastest film to reach $200 million (3 days), $300 million (9 days), $400 million (14 days), and $500 million (23 days); and highest Saturday ($69.5 million) and Sunday ($57 million) totals. It is the #4 film of all time internationally with $838.9 million.

Among only 12 films that have grossed $1 billion at the global box office, Marvel’s The Avengers is one of five billion-dollar Disney releases, which also include Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Alice in Wonderland, Disney•Pixar’s Toy Story 3, and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

In celebration of the release of The Amazing Spider-Man on July 3, 2012, starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, with Martin Sheen and Sally Field, Columbia Pictures is pulling out all the stops to make this movie not only a success at the box office, but make a difference too.

The studio has partnered with some of NYC’s premier cultural institutions to create Spider-Man Week in NYC, a seven-day calendar of events in all five boroughs.  The week includes a volunteer initiative as “Spider-Man” teams with his fellow New Yorkers to give back to their community by helping out people in need.

With special events at New York landmarks from the Empire State Building to the American Museum of Natural History to the Intrepid Sea Air & Space Museum, Spider-Man Week in NYC offers a chance to celebrate the film and the city that Spider-Man loves and protects.

For a full calendar of events, fans can visit www.spidermanweeknyc.com.

The week of events kicks off on Monday, June 25 with the cast of The Amazing Spider-Man appearing on the Today Show Plaza.  That evening, there will be a Spider-Man event at Forbidden Planet, and the Empire State Building will light up in Spider-Man red and blue to encourage fans to Be Amazing, Stand Up and Volunteer the next day, Tuesday, June 26th.  Fans can log onto www.beamazing2012.com to register for this nationwide day of volunteering, which will support Stand Up To Cancer. With the support of NYC Service, the cast of the film will join thousands of New Yorkers to volunteer at locations throughout all five boroughs.

On Wednesday, June 27, Spider-Man will deliver the first spider to The American Museum of Natural History’s newest exhibit, “SPIDERS ALIVE!”

All week long, special events have been scheduled all across the city. The Wildlife Conservation Society Zoos will feature Spider-Man themed scavenger hunts.  Spider-Man will visit children at NYC-area hospitals, in partnership with Lollipop Theater Network.  Madame Tussauds New York features the new Marvel Super Hero 4D experience and will offer $10 off admission; On Location Tours will give fans a chance to see some of the locations used in filming The Amazing Spider-Man with a special web-deal on their New York TV & Movie Sites tour; audiences can check out “Wild, Wonderful Spiders” at The New York Botanical Garden; the Sony Store will offer fun giveaways; and The Amazing Spider-Man programming will be featured at The Paley Center for Media.  Kids can take part in The Amazing Spider-Man-themed activities at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum (Wednesday through Friday) and the Staten Island Children’s Museum (Wednesday and Thursday); at Staten Island, visitors will also get a chance to meet Lucy, the museum’s very own live tarantula.

On Saturday, June 30th, kids can visit the Sony Wonder Technology Lab for a Sci-Tech Workshop on Spider-Man animation, where they will learn the basic techniques behind stop motion animation to create their very own unique Spider-Man animated short to take home. Also on Saturday, at the Skyscraper Museum, kids will find out what running a newspaper is like by producing their own special-edition illustrated paper. The week will conclude on Sunday, July 1st at Spider-Man Square on the Intrepid’s Pier 86 with fun activities and giveaways.

The Amazing Spider-Man will open in theaters everywhere in 3D on July 3, 2012.

‘The Amazing Spider-Man’: New Australian trailer!

05.29.2012 | By |

'The Amazing Spider-Man': New Australian trailer!

A movie trailer can often make or destroy a film, especially a blockbuster film. It all depends on which part of the story the studio decides to focus on. In the case of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’, Columbia Pictures focused on telling the origins of Spider-Man and his search for his abandonment by his parents to American audiences. But that’s not the case in Australia where their new trailer for the arachnid hero is much more entertaining, more balanced with action and humor and less oriented to Spidey’s origins.

To be frank, this is the best preview of the film we’ve seen, and if American audiences had seen this first, we would be discussing how tough the competition would be against “The Avengers“. The American versions of the Spidey trailers are dark in tone, dramatic, and do not have the trademark humor with which we grew up reading in the Marvel comics and Saturday morning cartoons.

The Australian international trailer gives us some new scenes we can sink our teeth into such as The Lizard dialogue, and interactions with Parker and Gwen Stacy.

“The Amazing Spider-Man” opens on July 3 in the United States.

Incredible… “I Fell Asleep During The Avengers”

04.30.2012 | By |

The article was taken from a Spanish language article we wrote back on May 4th, 2012.

Curiously enoiugh, Mexico City so far has not sold out yet. Is it that word hasn’t gone out over there yet or Mexicans aren’t into Spider-Man? I registered there for kicks and giggles and managed to snap up 2 tickets for the Mexican capital. The pass is in our rockin’ Spanish language, but of course I’m not traveling down there to see it, but if you are reading this and live down there, you’re more than welcome to use it. Confirmed! Mickey Rourke will be ‘Iron Man 2’

03.11.2009 | By |

Confirmed! Mickey Rourke will be 'Iron Man 2'

Mickey Rourke has closed his deal to play the Russian villain in “Iron Man 2.”
His involvement was expected, but dealmaking was arduous after Marvel Entertainment offered “The Wrestler” star only $250,000 for his first major studio film in years.More than one option

Rourke’s salary will be now better than that.

While his ICM rep, David Unger, battled for more dough, Rourke’s encounters with “Iron Man” star Robert Downey Jr. on the awards circuit sealed his participation in the film.los

Rourke won the Golden Globe and was Oscar nominated for “The Wrestler” and Downey got Golden Globe and Oscar nominations for “Tropic Thunder,” so Downey used each occasion to recruit Rourke.

When Downey, Rourke as well as actors including Frank Langella and Anne Hathaway took part in a roundtable discussion with Newsweek’s David Ansen, Downey interrupted the proceedings, reached across the table and flat out asked Rourke to do “Iron Man 2.”

Rourke also met with Jon Favreau and scribe Justin Theroux and got to be part of the development of his character. He’ll play Whiplash, a character that includes elements from that comicbook villain and Crimson Dynamo, another Russian baddie.

Marvel wouldn’t confirm Rourke’s involvement, but he’s planning to join Downey, Sam Rockwell and Samuel L. Jackson, with Scarlett Johansson the frontrunner to play the Black Widow.

Samuel L. Jackson: Confirmed for 9 Marvel films

02.26.2009 | By |

Samuel L. Jackson: Confirmed for 9 Marvel films

Samuel L. Jackson has signed a long-term deal with Marvel Entertainment to return as Nick Fury for ‘Iron Man 2’ and then potentially nine more films. Following recent statements by Jackson that negotiations between he and Marvel had come to naught, this is really good news.

It has been hard enough keeping track of ‘Iron Man 2’ casting without having to think of a new actor to play the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division). According to rumors, Mickey Rourke was in as a villain, and then out. Emily Blunt and Scarlett Johansson have been mentioned as Black Widow, while Don Cheadle did in fact replace Terrance Howard as Iron Man Tony Stark’s military friend Jim Rhodes.

Besides ‘Iron Man 2,’ set for a 2010 release, Jackson will play Fury in the Kenneth Branagh-directed ‘Thor’ (also 2010) and Captain America’ and ‘The Avengers’ (both 2010). There may also be a S.H.I.E.L.D. movie further down the road.

Those are four of the nine titles, but I’m not sure what other properties Marvel has in development that benefit from Jackson’s sense of gravitas. There’s ‘Ant-Man,’ which ‘Shaun of the Dead’ director Nick Wright is attached to, and ‘Runaways,’ which is currently being scripted by Brian K. Vaughn.
