The Complete 2017 Oscar Nominations List

01.24.2017 | By |

2016 really began presenting its best movies in August, I know, a weird month to exhibit great work, but it brought us delightful films such as Florence Foster Jenkins, Hell or High Water and Kubo and the Two Strings amongst others. All three movies have been nominated for Oscars. Damien Chazelles’s La La Land though, tied the record for most nominations in Academy history with 14 nods tying James Cameron’s Titanic and Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s classic All About Eve from 1950. These nominations also denote the diverse work of new filmmakers who introduced new faces and bold stories to a changing America. Check out the list! Jack Rico’s Top 10 Movies Of 2016

12.29.2016 | By |

It’s hard to look back at 2016 and not think how tragic it was to lose our beloved artistic icons. But when it comes to motion pictures, there were a couple of silver linings one can sanguinely lean on as bright spots. Though this was by far the year of superheroes and animated films, it was also the year where we witnessed the Golden Age of African-American storytelling. With remarkable films such as Moonlight, Hidden Figures, Fences, Birth of a Nation, Kicks, Loving, 13th and I Am Not Your Negro in theaters, the outlook for black cinema finally looks hopeful. Women and multiculturalism were also front and center on screen and behind the scenes and no film was more demonstrative of those attributes than Rogue One. Movies, in general, impact people differently and I believe the Top 10 Movies I have selected above not only reflect those qualities but provide the standard of excellence in cinema this year. 5 Actors Who Could Reboot ‘Rocky’

10.27.2016 | By |

Creed was one of the surprise hits of 2015, and successfully revitalized the Rocky franchise in an unexpected way. While Sylvester Stallone stole the show as an aging Rocky training a protégé, it was Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis Johnson character that positioned himself to continue the series. That means that in some sense Rocky will continue, though it will do so through a new character. Coming Soon, which tends to have up-to-date information on release dates in addition to its regular film news, has said that there’s a tentative November 2017 release date for Creed 2 (which may or may not feature Stallone in a major role).
