Back in January 13th of 2008, I began the first ever Spanish movie review radio segment with Luis Jimenez, one of the premiere morning personalities in radio, regardless of language. Once a year, a trailer comes along that absorbs you from the first frame to the last. Unlike the previous two weeks, this particular week of theatrical releases doesn’t really have anything I’d trip over to see. I mean, Smurfs 2 is on the menu, that should tell you what us moviegoers are dealing with here. Perhaps the more interesting of the bunch are Europa Report for its premise, a film directed by Ecuadorian Sebastian Cordero starring Sharlto Copley (District 9) and The Canyons anchored by Lindsay Lohan. The latter seems to be the one to see this week for the pop culture puns and references she begets. It is rare to get anything revealing or honest out of an actor at a junket interview. Actually, it’s almost impossible. I’ve had my shares though where I have broken through. My interview with Peter Sarsgaard for Blue Jasmine was one of those interviews filled where he just opened up without a care in the world. But perhaps the answer that most stands out from this interview is his sincere and emotional confession of almost having to turn down the role Woody Allen offered him for Blue Jasmine.
